About

"Knit Relic 2" is an 18 x 14 x 1.5 fiber work mounted on a wood panel. It features a rich pattern of burgundy, gold, and tan with a vivid touch of turquoise. The elegant triangular shape is crossed by an irregular line of silk sari ribbon. In her “Relic” series, Vander Sluis creates quasi-relics made to appear as fragments of ancient garments. This clothing has been imbued with positive power. Sylvia Vander Sluis is a Boston-based, mixed–media artist. She synthesizes many different materials and techniques in collages of rich color and texture. Her work has been shown throughout the Northeast.
