This week we’re featuring Destination by Design<\/a>, our (virtual) attempt at a trip around the world. Fortunately, we have some amazing tour guides: five of our favorite aesthetes selected global destinations and then curated some awesomely gorgeous Pinboards in homage of their chosen locales. Today’s traveler is California-based interior designer Mark D. Sikes. Not only is his eponymous blog<\/a> one of our daily reads, his residential projects are consistently refined, classic, and steeped in clever details. 1. Why were you drawn to Punta Cana?<\/p>\n

Some of my favorite homes are found in Punta Cana, including Oscar and Annette de la Renta’s home, and John Rosselli and Bunny Williams’ home. Both properties have been a source of inspiration for me, as they exemplify the relaxed yet sophisticated indoor-outdoor lifestyle that I so love!<\/p>\n\"mirror2\"<\/a>\n



2. What images and visuals do you most closely associate with the city?<\/p>\n

Blue skies and water, green lawns, the shadows of palm trees, coral stones, blue and white porcelain, wicker-clad lanais, chinoiserie, baskets, Anglo-Indian antiques, orchids in trees, and slipcovers.<\/p>\n\"urns\"<\/a>
