Photo by Thomas Loof<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/material\/lucite\/\">Lucite<\/a>, or transparent plastic, furniture has been on design editors\u2019 radars for several seasons now, but thanks to a renewed interest in pieces from the late 1960s and \u201970s, the trend is expected to reach fever pitch this fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there\u2019s a freshness and cleanness to it,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/design-firms\/fawn-galli-inteteriors\/\">Fawn Galli<\/a>, an interior designer based in New York. Not only is Lucite practical, since it can work in nearly any environment, it\u2019s incredibly stylish.<\/p>\n<p>Not sure how to work Lucite into your home? We asked a few of our favorite designers to share what they love about this material, plus select a piece from 1stdibs and tell us how they would use it in a room.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Tamara Eaton<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI think there\u2019s something really nice about the simplicity of anything Lucite or acrylic \u2014 it feels lightweight,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/design-firms\/tamara-eaton-design\/\">Tamara Eaton<\/a>, whose eponymous firm deftly balances traditional and modern designs. Photo by Jeffrey Kilmer<\/p><\/div>\n<p>For the living room in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/style\/mid-century-modern\/\">mid-century modern<\/a> townhouse in Park Slope, Brooklyn, Eaton chose a pair of box-shaped tables with copper handles from Jamie Dietrich. \u201cWe didn\u2019t want anything to be too heavy, and that area was a place where [the family] would sometimes move those tables so the kids could play,\u201d she says. So she reached for a Lucite coffee table by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/charles-hollis-jones\/\">Charles Hollis Jones<\/a> that \u201cjust hit the right note&#8221; as far as being a light counterpoint to the darker sofa and rug. They blend in, but still bring shine and color in an unexpected way.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Amy Lau<\/h2>\n<p>Form and function draw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/design-firms\/amy-lau-design\/\">interior designer Amy Lau<\/a> to see-through pieces again and again. \u201cI always use rugs that look like art,\u201d she says, and Lucite allows you to \u201cenjoy that rug and still see it.\u201d Another plus: \u201cIt\u2019s so easy to wipe up,\u201d she says, and is not a conductor of heat so it stays the same temperature. With them, you get \u201cthis great function,\u201d but you don\u2019t have to see it in action.
