A lovelorn Englishman\u2019s study, a rock star\u2019s den, a tropical beach paradise and Out of Africa<\/em> on horseback. These are just a few of the concepts dreamed up by designers for London\u2019s first-ever Holiday House<\/a> to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the project in aid of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This year, Iris Dankner, who founded Holiday House in New York before expanding to the Hamptons, and cochairs Rachel Laxer and Joyce Mizrahi have invited a host of European and American designers to bring their distinctive visions to life in 25 rooms across two London townhouses, which are on sale for $30.5 million each.<\/p>\n

Ingenuity is in abundance in both showhouses \u2014 from Hazel Collins\u2019s transformation of a hallway coat closet into an Art Deco cocktail bar<\/a> to Simone Suss\u2019s funky bedroom for a teenage girl. The latter is a riot of pink fluffiness complete with an \u201cOh la la\u201d pink neon wall sculpture by Bag & Bones and a Tracey Emin<\/a> fabric work.<\/p>\n

At number 61 Hamilton Terrace, in leafy northwest London, Rachel Laxer has created a handsome dining room for \u201cmodern cafe society,\u201d with a show-stopping Lasvit glass chandelier titled Memento Mori, a delicate profusion of bubbles, skull and bones (perhaps meant to fit the breast-cancer theme). Six crystal Damien Hirst<\/a> butterfly panels by Lalique<\/a> and vintage black-and-white photographs add further artistry.<\/p>\n

Across the hall, Fiona Barrett-Campbell<\/a> has turned the living room into \u201ca feast for the senses,\u201d as she puts it, where organic natural forms combine with a Roman influence. Cascading 14-karat gold luster and pallid bone-china leaves by Haberdashery dominate one wall. And Lindsey Adelman<\/a>\u2019s Kingdom Arch chandelier (in the background), recalling the succulent burro\u2019s tail plant, mirrors the graceful curve of the Antibes chaise upholstered in de Le Cuona Vienna Flamenco. Here, one can recline beside a pair of Roman-inspired Solis onyx and brass side tables<\/a> and admire the dramatic Hadrian limestone and bronze console based on Roman jewelry, part of the FBC London collection<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Downstairs, Carnaby Street meets Liberace in Susan White\u2019s flamboyant kitchen and media room, whose highlights include a gem-encrusted white grand piano, a fuchsia feather wall by Tracy Kendall and a bespoke Iggi candy-cane ceiling sculpture. \u201cMy interiors are quite quirky. I like having a 3-D look, I like the movement and shadowing,\u201d White explains.<\/p>\n

The glam features are paired with stunning Ginger & Jagger furniture such as a mirror framed with gold leaves, Lalique glassware and Artwood flooring with a platinum wash. Somehow, White manages to cohesively pair Pop and graffiti artworks with enchanting gold and bronze Pansy chairs by French designer Joy de Rohan Chabot. A giant screen displaying digital works by Jacolby Satterwhite and other artists complements this energizing space.<\/p>\n

Tucked away at the back of the house, a study designed by the Invisible Collection in partnership with architects Bismut & Bismut<\/a> invites one on \u201can inner journey.\u201d This refined space is home to a striking feature wall with cream plaster panelling inlaid with copper, whose clean lines and dual tones are echoed in the travertine and stainless steel-pedestal table and contrast beautifully with the red luxuriance of the Mongolian lamb Very Hairy sofa, both created by Michel and Daniel Bismut for the Invisible Collection.<\/p>\n

Upstairs, Amelia Carter\u2019s bedroom plunges visitors into an exotic jungle fantasy with a Stark antelope print carpet, De Gournay<\/a>\u2019s Amazonia wallpaper that teams with monkeys and parrots and a Sheba mirror in gold from Arteriors in a nod to Chippendale<\/a> and Matisse<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nearby, Catherine Weinstock\u2019s room is a crossroads of diverse cultures called the Think Tank. African hardwood Vertebrae chairs, designed by Babacar Niang, are placed around a mesmerizing Francesco Perini circular oak and steel table, beside an exuberant Shanty sideboard in corrugated metal, designed by Doshi Levien<\/a> for BD Barcelona<\/a>; Pakistani artworks adorn the walls and an Indian rug lines the floor. \u201cI\u2019m interested in the connections between all cultures and ethnicities,\u201d Weinstock says. \u201cPeople are going to reflect on this sense of peace and harmony when they come in here.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the neighboring house, 59 Hamilton Terrace, Nina Campbell<\/a> and collaborator Justin Van Breda have packed an autumnal punch, decking out their dining room in Campbell\u2019s Les R\u00eaves fabric. Orange and brown patterns dominate, a standout being a Collioure fabric-paneled, high-gloss walnut cabinet with Gilver details, lined with Poole Pottery works<\/a>. The 1950s Murano hand-blown globe lights<\/a> match the room perfectly, but as Van Breda says, \u201cThere\u2019s no hero piece. Everything sings together. The room itself is the creation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along the hall, one encounters Campion Platt<\/a>\u2019s ode to unrequited love in his St. Valentine\u2019s Day Secrets gentleman\u2019s study, replete with hidden Clive Christian walnut and brass inlay panels. Seductive Trove wallpaper featuring queens from around the world covers the ceiling and a large Richard Hudson<\/a> teardrop sculpture, violet tailored jacket by Timothy Everest and a pink-accented Alexandra Llewellyn backgammon set contribute further feminine touches.<\/p>\n

Upstairs, Studio QD and Nicky Haslam<\/a> have jointly created a salon-boudoir for a woman to entertain in intimate elegance. The ceiling and walls, painted to look like ribbons, were inspired by Christian Bernard, while trompe l\u2019oeil bookcases \u2014 all by the Finished Effect \u2014 pay homage to interiors illustrator Jeremiah Goodman<\/a>, who passed away this year. The cream Silk Avenue \u201cpainterly paving\u201d rug offsets the walls and ceiling, while the attractive Talisman drinks trolleys and oval mirrors<\/a> and Tatiana Tafur zigzag parchment sideboard lend conviviality to the space.<\/p>\n

Swedish equestrian enthusiast Patrik L\u00f6nn offers an African escape with his \u201cman cave\u201d decorated in retro Herm\u00e8s<\/a> plant wallpaper, wooden tribal sculptures, Bentley\u2019s silver accessories and bold round wooden mirrors by Charles Edwards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the top of the house, Philippe Maidenberg concocted a fabulous Dreamer\u2019s Lounge dedicated to Supertramp frontman Roger Hodgson. \u201cThe sky is just above, so we had to make something where he could write a song, just close the door and dream,\u201d says the French architect and designer.
