Gregory Gatserelia is a designer who creates projects so diverse that it is impossible to associate him with one specific style. But if there is one constant among his output, it\u2019s that each space has soul.<\/p>\n

Cofounder of the Beirut-based Gatserelia Design<\/a>, which he started with his brother Alexander in 1985, Gregory works closely with his clients in designing their homes. This collaborative spirit and diverse collection of influences characterize his work, as exemplified by this 16,000-square-foot Beirut apartment.<\/p>\n

Designed for a family of six whose primary residence is in Qatar, the residence highlights the owners\u2019 remarkable art collection. Sculptures by Tony Cragg<\/a> and Fran\u00e7ois-Xavier Lalanne<\/a> are combined with exceptional furniture, including a unique table by Georges Mohasseb<\/a> and a lighting fixture by No\u00e9 Duchaufour-Lawrance<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe objective was to create a space that truly lives,\u201d Gatserelia says. \u201cEvery room has to reflect its own magic.\u201d Let\u2019s take a look inside.<\/p>\n

\n

Living Room<\/h2>\n\"Beirut\n

The room features pieces from renowned designers, like the Silhouette rug by Jaime Hayon<\/a>. Rather than giving priority to \u201ca series of big rugs, I\u2019ve decided to use small rugs that fuse with the shapes of the coffee tables,\u201d Gatserelia says. The space also includes thin-legged Archibald armchairs by <\/span>Jean-Marie Massaud<\/a>, a Willy armchair by <\/span>Guglielmo Ulrich<\/a>, a gold coffee table by <\/span>Armand Jonckers<\/a> and a silver floor lamp by <\/span>Alessandro Mendini<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Robert Wilson painting was inspired by the portrait of Mademoiselle Caroline Rivi\u00e8re painted in 1806 by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. The tall black sculptures are <\/span>Pair<\/em> by Tony Cragg and <\/span>Juillet<\/em> by <\/span>Fran\u00e7ois Stahly<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\"Beirut\n

The ceiling lighting installation is by Gatserelia Design and the blue Soho sofa by Paolo Piva<\/a>. The white disk on the wall is Mare Tranquillitatis<\/em>, a fiber-optic piece by Astrid Krogh.<\/p>\n

Lounge<\/h2>\n\"Beirut\n

The bronze table is by Jacques Duval-Brasseur<\/a>, the Edna chair is by Karim Chaya and the small black table is by Wendell Castle<\/a>. The curved Italian sofa references Ico Parisi<\/a>\u2019s style.<\/p>\n

Reception Room<\/h2>\n\"Beirut\n

In the reception room, Lindsey Adelman<\/a>‘s Catch chandelier hangs over Gatserelia’s Gathering sofa, a coffee table by Ado Chale<\/a> and a rug by Bruno Moinard Editions. The space features a pair of Warren Platner<\/a> Easy chairs and Champignon side tables by Philippe Hiquily<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The room’s many sculptural creations include Stone Sheep by Fran\u00e7ois-Xavier Lalanne, M\u00e8re Cath\u00e9drale<\/em> by Parvine Curie, the Odalisca totem by Ettore Sottsass<\/a> and a string installation by Gaetano Pesce<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bedroom<\/h2>\n\"Beirut\n

All of the bedrooms have a neutral palette and richly hued wood floors. In this chamber, the bed and nightstands were designed by Gatserelia; above the headboard hangs a wall sculpture by Felix Augustin.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurniture is a key component that shapes an interior space and adds life, comfort, functionality and style,\u201d Gatserelia says. The bedside lamps are by Karen Chekerdjian<\/a> and the mirror is by Antoni Gaud\u00ed<\/a>. The room also includes a Banquette bench by Marc Bankowsky<\/a> and an Aster X chair by Jean-Marie Massaud<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dining Room<\/h2>\n\"Beirut\n

Surrounded by vintage chairs, the hypnotic table by Georges Mohasseb<\/a> is one of the dining room’s key design elements. A ceiling lighting fixture by No\u00e9 Duchaufour-Lawrance<\/a> and an artwork by Peter Zimmermann complement the look and increase the feeling of movement.<\/p>\n

\n

Bathroom and Hallway<\/h2>\n\"Beirut\n

\u201cWe aim to create interiors that express the personality of our clients through custom-made creativity, which is why each and every project is unique in its own way,\u201d Gatserelia says. His firm custom created the mirrors in the bathroom, and the wall-paint effect is by Brigitte Vanlaethum. Gatserelia also designed the sculptural brass tree lights that lines the hallway.<\/p>\n
