For the great room, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/project\/nyc-loft--new-york-ny\/184382\/\">Dorothee Junkin, of DJDS,<\/a> chose to emphasize material and texture rather than pattern and color.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whether it is the beautifully aged finish of an original wood beam, the large planks of cerused-oak flooring or the veining of a feature stone, carefully selected finishes and design elements form a layered composition,&#8221; she says.<\/p>\n<p>The custom blackened-steel staircase leading up to the private rooftop is our favorite element \u2014 especially in the warmer months. She left Plum to start <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/project\/pioneer-square-loft-seattle-wa\/178472\/\">Le Whit<\/a> with Liza Curtiss, and it was the two of them who outfitted the home\u2019s interiors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wanted to mix the historic elements of the loft that gave it a very tactile quality \u2014 exposed brick, open beams and so on \u2014 with super light and bright interiors,\u201d Kingston says. &#8220;The furnishings were kept to a minimum in order to celebrate the open space.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The table was custom built, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/seating\/dining-room-chairs\/period\/20th-century\/\">dining chairs<\/a> surrounding it are vintage finds. The clients enlisted Josh Lekwa of Elizabeth Roberts Architecture &amp; Design, who opened up the rooms but \u201cleft the patina on the existing ceiling,\u201d keeping the timber subfloor and beams untreated.
