Adds J. Birnbach\u2019s von Nessi, \u201cWith the rising popularity of the toi-et-moi-style rings, you will often see this shape slightly angled in its setting.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also worth noting that different rules apply for different types of jewelry. When a pear-cut gem is worn as a pendant, von Nessi explains, \u201cit is recommended to have the point positioned upwards, so that the necklace lies properly and the pendant will not flip.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cAs with all diamond shapes, trends come and go,\u201d says von Nessi. Pear shapes, she observes, \u201care experiencing a resurgence in popularity due to big-name celebrities who have rocked this look \u2014 like Cardi B, Paris Hilton and Ariana Grande, to name a few.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do pear-cut diamonds look bigger?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes! \u201cBecause of the shape and tip, they do tend to look bigger\u201d than their square or round counterparts, says Izzo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although superstition has it that pear-shaped diamonds portend sadness because of their resemblance to teardrops, many people believe they represent tears of joy, like those shed on one\u2019s wedding day. According to Izzo, who\u2019s sold countless pear-cut stones, if you\u2019re considering one, there\u2019s nothing to worry about. \u201cNo, they\u2019re not bad luck,\u201d he asserts. \u201cThat was an old tale.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
