Two years ago, Brynn Wallner knew very little about the world of high-end watches. Now it\u2019s fair to say it’s her favorite subject. She chronicles celebrity watch sightings past and present, as well as her own encounters with watch lovers and industry insiders, for her Instagram account<\/a> and blog<\/a>, called Dimepiece. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDimepiece, the name, is a slang term for a hot girl, because a dime is a 10,\u201d Wallner explains. \u201cSo it\u2019s like, \u2018She\u2019s a perfect 10, she\u2019s a dimepiece.\u2019 \u201d In this case, though, the term applies to timepieces, not women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re past ranking women and their hotness by numbers,\u201d says Wallner, \u201cbut I thought it was such a fun play on words.\u201d She wanted Dimepiece to offer a counterpoint to the seriousness of other watch sites, and hoped the name would signal that intention. \u201cI thought it brought a little levity to the space,\u201d she says. \u201cImmediately, from the name, you know you\u2019re getting into something fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crucially, she also wanted to cover watches from a female perspective and offer women an entry point into the heavily male-dominated realm of horology that was unintimidating and judgement-free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The images in Dimepiece\u2019s Instagram feed run the gamut from throwback photos of Whitney Houston<\/a> wearing a Rolex President<\/a> and a Cartier Panth\u00e8re<\/a> circa the early \u201990s to up-to-the-minute red-carpet shots of Kaia Gerber at the 2021 Met Gala accessorizing her Oscar de la Renta gown<\/a> with an Omega De Ville<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wallner was first exposed to the watch world through a job at Sotheby\u2019s. She joined the company\u2019s editorial staff in 2019 and was tasked with creating content for its website, including stories on luxury timepieces. As she researched photos to accompany the articles, she realized that women were suspiciously missing from the picture \u2014 literally and figuratively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEverywhere I looked, it was all about the men, and I never really saw anything about women,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018But surely, women have to be wearing these watches too.\u2019 \u201d She privately gave herself a mission: \u201cHow can we find pictures of women and kind of sneak them into the narrative?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She started to see the problem as an opportunity. \u201cI realized that there was a gap in the space, and I was like, \u2018Well, if there\u2019s nothing that exists, why don\u2019t I just create something?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
