As we enter a new year and another season of alternative award ceremonies, let\u2019s remember simpler times when glamour meant unadulterated flash and the sheer joy of sparkle. With every sequin and stone, this extraordinary pairing of Sonny and Cher stage costumes<\/a> pays homage to the seductive glimmer of escapist pleasures past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each garment, says Lauren Lepire, proprietor of Timeless Vixen<\/a> in Beverly Hills, is \u201ciconic and it\u2019s so special having both of them \u2014 dealers are usually excited to just have a blouse that someone wore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed for the couple\u2019s 1976\u201377 run at Harrah\u2019s Lake Tahoe, the garments reflect the inimitable persona of each star. Cher\u2019s dress is \u201cthe Rolls Royce of clothing<\/a>,\u201d says Lepire, pointing out that Bob Mackie<\/a>\u2019s design is \u201call hand done and a perfect example of her nude illusion style.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

As for Sonny\u2019s tuxedo, designed by Emmy-winning costumer Ret Turner, it is \u201ca man\u2019s tuxedo with such flair \u2014 clearly for performance,\u201d says Lepire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inclusion of the shoes \u201cis pretty fantastic,\u201d she continues, \u201cbut Sonny does have a very small foot.\u201d Ultimately, though, what makes this set such an incredible investment is that, in addition to having both outfits created by a known designer<\/a>, pictures document their provenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Lepire, \u201cThese details check all the boxes for a holy grail for collectors<\/a>.\u201d It\u2019s also nice to consider that after all these years this dynamic duo is still together. Should we be surprised? After all, as the famous Sonny and Cher song goes, \u201cI got you, babe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
