But even by those standards, the sitting room <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/design-firms\/noz-design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Noz Nozawa<\/a> dreamed up for <em>House Beautiful<\/em>\u2019s 2020 Whole Home Concept House, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/project\/house-beautiful-concept-house-franktown-co\/261672\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in Franktown, Colorado<\/a>, is a feast for the eyes with its explosion of pattern and color. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDespite how visually activating our fireplace tile is, this piece&#8217;s large swaths of solid color stand out and add a centeredness to the wall,\u201d she says of the oil-on-canvas by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/kuzana-ogg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kuzana Ogg<\/a>. \u201cIt felt like this painting and some of the colors and shapes I&#8217;d chosen for my tile work and arched shelving had a simpatico relationship.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nozawa also sourced vintage 1960s burgundy leather <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/luna-chair-odd-knutsen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Luna lounge chairs<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/odd-knutsen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Odd Knutsen<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/hjellegjerde-mobler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hjellegjerde<\/a>, a \u201970s Brazilian cowhide sofa by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/jules-heumann\/furniture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jules Heumann<\/a> and a contemporary cherrywood coffee table, to round out the palette of jewel tones and textured neutrals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She often suggests that her clients use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/art\/style\/abstract\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abstract works<\/a> as conversation starters. \u201cIf you\u2019re putting an abstract piece into a room where you entertain, it can offer an opportunity for guests to have their own reaction to and relationship with it, and I love that for a hosting space!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><a <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With its high energy, the untitled 2020 work by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/oscar-murillo-1\/art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oscar Murillo<\/a> counterbalances the organic nature of the end-grain oak table \u2014 a custom design by Lonstein \u2014 as well as the soft curves of the vintage <a home<\/a> she designed for art-loving New York clients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the clean-lined furnishings \u2014 a custom wood-slab dining table manufactured by BDDW, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/designs\/luisa-chair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Luisa chairs<\/a> designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/franco-albini\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Franco Albini<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/cassina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cassina<\/a> and a delicate glass-and-brass chandelier from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/lindsey-adelman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lindsey Adelman<\/a> \u2014 there was plenty of visual wiggle room for exploring curated moments of drama. \u201cWe needed a little edginess, and this piece, as well as the playful large-scale pens by Johannes Albers, did just the trick.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pulling off such a drastic, large-scale work isn\u2019t as effortless as Curtis makes it look here. \u201cI like to make sure there\u2019s some room for a piece to breathe on the wall.
