Although they also offer paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture and other mediums, their inventory of prints is particularly vast, representing a wide variety of iconic artists \u2014 such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/andy-warhol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Andy Warhol<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/salvador-dali\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Salvador Dal\u00ed<\/a> \u2014 as well as those who have flown under the radar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If one thing can be said about women artists, it\u2019s that there are many thrilling discoveries yet to be made, past and present. She was included in the U.S. pavilion at the 1984 Venice Biennale in a show organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New Museum of Contemporary Art<\/a>. Her pieces became increasingly abstract over time, and her intense mark making \u2014 she often excavated her canvases \u2014 translates well to the medium of print. As his longtime muse and creative partner, Kleinrock (who is also known as Sybil Yurman) is the living proof that behind so many great men is a great woman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two artists met while working in the studio of sculptor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/hans-van-de-bovenkamp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hans Van de Bovenkamp<\/a> in the late 1960s. Kleinrock drew attention to Yurman\u2019s sculptures by wearing them as jewelry. She went on to cofound Yurman\u2019s business <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/introspective-magazine\/david-yurman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">and fuel his creative vision<\/a>. This print, which spotlights Kleinrock\u2019s affinity for texture, was made in 1978, as the X symbol was becoming her trademark. Although she remains less well known than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/blogs\/the-study\/what-is-pop-art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">some of her contemporaries<\/a> in that fiercely male arena, Kogelnik was radically creative and carved out a truly original body of work. She staged happenings, incorporated dystopian futuristic imagery in her paintings and experimented with materials like vinyl, all while retaining serious aesthetic appeal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 1970s, she began critiquing the representation of women in popular culture and turned her eye on fashion magazines, creating images of model-esque women with features slightly awry. Her geometric forms often have a very tactile presence that lifts them off the page, despite their graphic flatness. After earning a BA in political science at UC Berkeley in the late 1960s, she studied at Wayne State University, in Detroit, with Robert Kidd, who had been head of fiber arts at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/introspective-magazine\/cranbrook-academy-of-art-since-1932\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">renowned Cranbrook Academy of Art<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zinkel was deeply fixated on color, playing different hues off one another for a variety of dramatic effects. This silkscreen is one of several directly inspired by color theorist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/josef-albers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Josef Albers<\/a>\u2019s legendary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/josef-albers-homage-to-the-square\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cHomage to the Square\u201d series<\/a>. But Zinkel reveals much more of her hand in her slightly imperfect geometric forms and staggered edges. When she was 19, her family fled from Barcelona to Paris, a hotbed of creativity at the time. They eventually landed in Mexico, but Aguade later returned to Barcelona, where she established her career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She picked up a variety of creative influences along the way, as evident in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/art\/prints-works-on-paper\/landscape-prints-works-on-paper\/carmen-aguade-analitica-1-carmen-aguade\/id-a_9264312\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Analitica 1<\/a><\/em>. The fragmented, stylized landscape nods to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/art\/style\/cubist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cubism<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/art\/style\/surrealist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Surrealism<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/art\/style\/abstract-geometric\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">geometric abstraction<\/a>, but Aguade has made them her own. \u201cLooking at this piece, you feel that you have accidentally peeked in on a page of a travel diary, earnest and dripping with a nostalgia that you can recognize but not quite grasp for yourself,\u201d says Reinhardt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><em>Doric Game II<\/em>, by Evelyn B. With its updated take on classicism, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/art\/prints-works-on-paper\/abstract-prints-works-on-paper\/evelyn-b-johnson-doric-game-ii\/id-a_11268692\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Doric Game II<\/em><\/a> channels <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/art\/style\/post-modern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">postmodernism<\/a> while paying homage to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/art\/style\/op-art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Op art<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a triumphant beacon of the \u201980s, complete with blurry pastel gradients and nearly neon translucent diagonals,\u201d says Reinhardt, who connects Johnson\u2019s design ethos to that of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/memphis-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Memphis Group<\/a>, the Italian design collective that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/introspective-magazine\/memphis-milano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">helped define the look of that era<\/a>.
