The personal touch starts in the front hall with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/dealers\/schumacher\/shop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Schumacher<\/a> Manos wallpaper, which he designed with his mother, the painter Pilar Almon. Mom also gets a shoutout in the pictures on the wall, portraits of her by photographer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/francesca-woodman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Francesca Woodman<\/a>. Washington, DC. \u201cThis client is a self-proclaimed maximalist, so we went for a whimsical, old-world feel.\u201d Helping to achieve that is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/william-morris-english\/furniture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">William Morris<\/a> wallpaper \u2014 a nod to the client\u2019s love of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/origin\/british\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">British design<\/a> \u2014 and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/leopard-print\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leopard-print<\/a> stair runner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBecause the client has two young children, the space also has to be functional,\u201d Feldman notes. \u201cThe leopard print is timeless and playful but also wears well, and the small <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/tables\/console-tables\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">console<\/a> provides a space for mail, mittens or whatever little items need a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">McAlpine<\/a> updated a traditional residence in the Nashville suburb of Forest Hills for a young family. \u201cThe entry foyer was all natural wood and upholstered walls,\u201d says firm principal Ray Booth. \u201cWe removed the fabric and painted the entire space a warm white to create a timeless introduction to the rest of the home.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the furnishings, Booth chose an antique walnut, four-drawer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/french-draper-table\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">draper&#8217;s table<\/a>, which he purchased on 1stDibs, and an antique Persian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/doroksh-rug\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Doroksh rug<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Noz Nozawa<\/a>\u2019s clients asked her to reimagine their San Francisco Bay Area home to reflect their ties to California and Japan. \u201cThis foyer welcomes you upstairs into the main living spaces,\u201d Nozawa says. \u201cWe designed it with an emphasis on volumes, materiality and a little magic, via the lighting, which inspired the design throughout the house.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inspirational pendant lights are by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/jeff-zimmerman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jeff Zimmerman<\/a>. Nozawa incorporated art and objects from the clients&#8217; existing collection into the entry as well.
