Here, we look at a few standout rooms in this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brooklyndesignershowhouse.com\/\">Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse<\/a>, on view through November 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marvelously curated once again by cochairs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/introspective-magazine\/ellen-hamilton\/\">Ellen Hamilton<\/a> and Erika Belsey Worth, the showhouse \u2014 whose ticket proceeds go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/thebha.org\/\">Brooklyn Heights Association<\/a>, which is dedicated to preserving the architectural heritage of the historic neighborhood \u2014 offers a glimpse of what\u2019s on the decorating horizon for the latter half of the 2020s. Lining the foyer is a dreamy, watercolor-like wallcovering by local maker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/dealers\/eskayel\/\">Eskayel<\/a>; the forest scene on the lower part of the mural slowly gives way to treetops and a blue sky as visitors ascend the stairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEntries and stairs can have a sense of urgent transitioning \u2014 getting to a room, leaving the house,\u201d Morris explains. \u201cI really wanted to take that movement and make it a moment of being fully immersed in beauty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reinforcing the woodland theme are an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/urban-electric\/\">Urban Electric<\/a> light fixture with a shade in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/la-maison-pierre-frey\/furniture\/\">Pierre Frey<\/a> leaf motif and a Stark stair runner with a pattern reminiscent of wood grain. We wanted to do something that is calm but still highly interesting, in collaboration with the craftspeople and artists we respect the most.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kloythanomsup\u2019s inspiration for the materials and ornamentation came from a bucolic drive in the English Cotswolds. \u201cI brought back the mental picture of rushing past dried wheatgrass and yarrow growing wild on the side of the road,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This conceit is most apparent in the meadow-like bas relief plasterwork on the hay-colored Farrow &amp; Ball paint. Jim Zivic custom made the woven-leather headboard, Kershaw crafted the pinewood furniture, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/studio-kuhlmann\/\">Studio Kuhlmann<\/a> manufactured the crinkled-steel floor lamp. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/art\/\">Artworks<\/a> include a photograph of a rural home by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/todd-hido-1968-american\/art\/\">Todd Hido<\/a> and a vintage sand-cast-glass <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/wall-decorations\/wall-mounted-sculptures\/\">wall sculpture<\/a> of a footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe remaining few pieces are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/info\/antiques\/\">antiques<\/a> with significance,\u201d Kloythanomsup says. Nothing too jarring.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soothing neutrals dominate, from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/dealers\/kravet-inc\/shop\/\">Kravet<\/a> fabric on the daybed to the tan leather wallcovering, the plaster light fixture on the ceiling and the Van Den Loom custom rug. There are, however, pops of color in the form of lilac <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/velvet-pillows\/\">velvet pillows<\/a> and gleaming rose-gold <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/france-and-son\/furniture\/\">France &amp; Son<\/a> tables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wanted to create a room that would be a refuge from the hustle and bustle outside its doors,\u201d Walsh says. Tang and his team wanted to preserve the brownstone\u2019s original details, such as wooden columns, hand-carved door frames and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/stained-glass-transom-windows\/\">stained-glass transom windows<\/a>, while introducing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/art\/style\/pop-art\/\">Pop<\/a> splashes of color, pattern and whimsy in the decor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe goal was to embrace the clients\u2019 dispositions \u2014 one\u2019s inclination for everything to match and the other\u2019s love for boldness and the color black. Surprisingly, they both appreciated the unexpected and playful,\u201d says Barbara Reyes, the firm\u2019s director of interior design. \u201cThere\u2019s an interesting duality happening across the home: a historic space with modern design and tongue-in-cheek humor added on top.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the dining room, the designers built a teak storage bench with a cushion swathed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/pollack-fabrics\/\">Pollack textile<\/a>. They also added custom padding on the wall, in an easy-to-clean teal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/dealers\/maharam\/\">Maharam<\/a> fabric, below a suite of wax-pencil artworks by Frank Magnotta. The vintage ebonized-brass extending table by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/paul-mccobb\/furniture\/\">Paul McCobb<\/a> is surrounded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/verner-panton-430\/\">Panton Series 430<\/a> chairs. But the biggest draw resides outside the windows: \u201cThe fireworks are amazing on the Fourth of July. They are most evident in what Jett described as the \u201cvery biomorphic\u201d custom sofa and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/material\/rattan\/\">rattan<\/a> \u201cpretzel chair.\u201d Look closer and you\u2019ll also see rounded edges in the vintage Italian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/tables\/nesting-tables-stacking-tables\/\">nesting tables<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/rugs-carpets\/chinese-rugs\/style\/art-deco\/\">Chinese Art Deco rug<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/simone-bodmer-turner\/\">Simone Bodmer-Turner<\/a> vase and the nude figures of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/georges-braque\/art\/\">Georges Braque<\/a> painting on the wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The apartment may be small, but it packs a serious punch. \u201cMoving through the spaces becomes very cinematic,\u201d Jett said. \u201cIt\u2019s not a feature-length movie.
