The bulbous green <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/decorative-objects\/vases-vessels\/\">vase<\/a> on top playfully mimics the red and orange blobs in the abstract <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/adolphgottlieb\/\">Adolph Gottlieb<\/a> painting above the sofa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A customized <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/gio-ponti\/furniture\/\">Gio Ponti<\/a> screen in bronze with glass panels serves as a refined room divider. \u201cBeyond breaking up the space, the glass plays with the room&#8217;s light beautifully,\u201d Ries explains. The spritely sensibility was largely instilled by her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/merve-kahraman\/furniture\/\">own fanciful furniture designs<\/a>. \u201cThe whole apartment has a vibe like a big suite in a hotel room,\u201d she says. \u201cIt is very practical and chic, without too much furniture or too many objects.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the dining area, Kahraman wanted to evoke a quaint caf\u00e9. With its yellow ombr\u00e9 curtain, the opening between the kitchen and the dining space playfully suggests a restaurant pass-through, while the circular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/tables\/tables\/21st-century-green-marble-round-dining-table-sculptural-wooden-base\/id-f_11296813\/\">Rotondo table<\/a>, its green-marble top supported by a carved-walnut base hugged by brass-framed chairs in burnt-orange velvet, encourages intimate meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The veining on Kahraman&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/lighting\/chandeliers-pendant-lights\/ziron-handblown-glass-chandelier-black-painted-metal-copper\/id-f_10743893\/\">Ziron chandelier<\/a> \u2014 a sculptural mix of hand-blown glass, black metal and brass \u2014 echoes the tabletop. Beneath it all, a custom rug depicting the constellations of the zodiac lies on the Mafi oak floor, whose cracks are embedded with gold. Nearby, the designer\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/storage-case-pieces\/bookcases\/portable-polished-brass-mahogany-cyclopedia-bookshelf-wheels\/id-f_10656581\/\">Cyclopedia bookshelf<\/a>, made of brass and mahogany, with old-fashioned bicycle wheels for mobility, leans casually against the wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA pied-\u00e0-terre,\u201d the designer says, \u201cshould be a fun space, easy to manage, with a light, airy color scheme. But after working with architect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/design-firms\/reddymade-architecture-and-design\/\">Suchi Reddy<\/a> to transform the space, the bicoastal couple found themselves wanting to spend as much time there as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reddy reconceived the two-bedroom apartment with an inviting contemporary aesthetic, defined by neutral hues, light-oak flooring and custom millwork with loads of cabinetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the living area, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/wolfgang-tillmans\/art\/\">Wolfgang Tillmans<\/a>&#8216;s 2007 photograph <em>Paper Drop (Glas)<\/em>, hangs above a barrel-back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/living-divani\/furniture\/\">Living Divani<\/a> swivel chair. An asymmetrical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/serge-mouille\/furniture\/\">Serge Mouille<\/a> sconce from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/dealers\/gueridon\/\">Gu\u00e9ridon<\/a> provides illumination. \u201cI wanted something evocative but open,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/introspective-magazine\/suchi-reddy-nyc\/\">Reddy says<\/a> of the artwork. Many furnishings, including several of the eye-catching light fixtures, were sourced from 1stDibs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs often happens with couples, they have slightly different views of what they would like,\u201d Reddy says. \u201cMitch is much more of a modernist \u2014 he wanted it to be clean-lined. Susan is more about textures and warmth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the precisely edited home, each element feels intentional, down to the flatware and dishes Reddy picked out. \u201cThe design makes use of every inch,\u201d she says. \u201cWe take care of the little details. Its verdant color and earthy texture became a design thread woven throughout the two-bedroom apartment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the living room, the lamp\u2019s mossy hue informed several key elements. Amoia enlisted his friend decorative painter Benjamin Lai to dapple a walnut cabinet in contrasting shades of green, adding a tactile richness to the space. Murray<\/a> and\u200b South Carolina interior designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/design-firms\/tammy-connor-interior-design\/\">Tammy Connor<\/a> teamed up to reimagine a sprawling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/project\/central-park-pied-a-terre-new-york-ny\/86241\/\">pied-\u00e0-terre in a 1938 building overlooking Central Park<\/a> as a timeless and sumptuous home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The design dialogue between the two was \u200b\u200bsynchronous from the start. \u201cConceptually, the conversation was how to bring the outside in,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/introspective-magazine\/john-b-murray-contemporary-classical-architecture\/\">Connor says<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the primary bedroom, that was achieved by covering the walls with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/phillip-jeffries\/\">Phillip Jeffries<\/a> grasscloth, setting an organic backdrop for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/bennison-fabric\/\">Bennison<\/a> floral curtains.
