What goes great with a Ferrari<\/a> or an Alfa Romeo? According to the logic of the early \u201860s, a loafer with a bumped rubber sole. Now known as driving shoes<\/a>, the footwear was first produced by the Italian company Car Shoe<\/a>, to help stylish drivers get a better grip on the gas pedal of their sports cars. Even with that particular association in its rearview mirror, the style has remained popular and is, in fact, trending this spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The driving shoe is similar in shape to a moccasin, but with distinctive pebble-like protrusions on its sole. In vibe, it falls somewhere between the casual boat shoe and the more buttoned-up penny loafer. Tod\u2019s<\/a> Gommino<\/a> version, introduced in 1979, is a classic still sought-after in 2025. Today, Prada<\/a>, Veronica Beard<\/a>, Miu Miu<\/a> and Gucci<\/a> are among the many designer brands offering their own takes in an array of colors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
