As the only museum in the United States that presents both historical and contemporary design<\/a>, Cooper Hewitt<\/a> is a regular stop in any design lover\u2019s New York museum itinerary. Even more intriguing than the institutions’ main exhibition spaces, though, is its private off-site storage. The museum recently gave Architectural Digest<\/em><\/a> <\/em>a glimpse inside this space, which the magazine shared with its readers. And we spotted a few of our favorite pieces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the seating icons are Gaetano Pesce\u2019s<\/a> Nobody\u2019s Perfect chair<\/a>, in green and yellow resin with red detailing; Frank Gehry<\/a>‘s High Sticking chair<\/a>, designed in 1990 and produced by Knoll<\/a>; and the Model 71 chair<\/a> by Eero Saarinen<\/a> in red upholstery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s a lot more than just chairs. Undeniably the most playful place to hang your hat in the design canon, the Cactus coat stand<\/a> by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello for Gufram<\/a> holds court on a rolling stand. Ingo Maurer\u2019s<\/a> Bulb lamp<\/a>, meanwhile, glows amid a group of other tabletop treasures. And these are a mere sampling of the more than 215,000 wonderful works in hiding here.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
