In a new video for Vogue<\/em><\/a>, Twiggy<\/a>, among the most important models of the Swinging \u201960s, tells the stories behind some of her most memorable photographs \u2014 including an unforgettable one of her with David Bowie<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just a few months after the release of Bowie\u2019s song \u201cDrive-In Saturday,\u201d which included a lyric that referred to her, Twiggy was asked to be photographed with the rock star for the cover of British Vogue<\/em>. She jumped at the chance. \u201cI went to Paris and met him, and he was just an amazing man,\u201d Twiggy recalls in the video. \u201cSo bright, so clever, so modest. Just a really great guy, apart from being really talented.\u201d The image was taken by photographer Justin De Villeneuve<\/a>, who was also her manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the shoot, the editor of British Vogue<\/em> said the magazine couldn\u2019t put a picture of a man on its cover. But Bowie saved the photo from oblivion by using it for the jacket of his 1973 album Pin Ups<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s had a much longer life actually,\u201d Twiggy reflects. \u201cEvery time [the album is] reissued in a different format, out comes the cover of Pin Ups<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
