Mommy, it hurts!\u201d cried Tilly, speaking for her injured minaudi\u00e8re, now missing a chunk from its glittering side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a pricey accident. As a bystander at the scene noted in an instantly viral line, \u201cThat\u2019s a $40,000 bear.\u201d Damage to a rare novelty handbag is devastating to a collector, even one with Tilly’s expansive holdings. But if a similar tragedy befell this 2023 Chanel slot machine clutch<\/a>, offered on 1stDibs by Rewind Vintage Affairs<\/a>, one has to wonder if a small fortune wouldn’t spill out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chanel\u2019s team seems to have been thinking along just those fanciful lines. The tray opening at the bottom of the clutch appears to be overflowing with gold coins stamped with the brand\u2019s trademark double C, which jingle and bounce around on metal chains. The clutch itself is crafted from resin, trimmed and lined with leather and bejeweled with a rainbow of crystals, evoking both the loud luxury of a high-end casino and the whimsy with which Chanel has long imbued its evening bags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The house\u2019s creative director since December 2024, Matthieu Blazy has made a sensational impression with his own novelty designs \u2014 squirrels, poodles and giraffes, oh my! \u2014 carrying on the tradition Karl Lagerfeld began in the early 2000s. In reimagining the classic 1930s minaudi\u00e8re, crafted from precious metals, Lagerfeld saw an opportunity to introduce more tongue-in-cheek models. Viard, who spent decades working alongside Lagerfeld, honored the house codes in its design along with the late designer’s playfulness. The winning combination on the Chanel slot machine is a camellia, the number 5 and a four-leaf clover, referencing both the brand\u2019s well-known symbols and Coco Chanel\u2019s affinity for lucky charms<\/a>. A large faux pearl crowns the clasp, a nod to Coco\u2019s elevation of costume jewelry. Celebrities like Julianne Moore and Kristen Stewart played “high rollers,” while the models, including Cara Delevingne and Kendall Jenner, sauntered around roulette tables in the season\u2019s new couture.
