vision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the library, a daybed and circular coffee table designed by Mu\u00f1oz and Machado establish a low, horizontal counterpoint to the slender verticality of a postmodern chair by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/anacleto-spazzapan\/furniture\/\">Anacleto Spazzapan<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/michael-anastassiades\/furniture\/\">Michael Anastassiades<\/a> mobile pendant, both sourced from 1stDibs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, the pieces create a dialogue of nontraditional forms that unfolds before the metal fireplace, above which a painting by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/antonio-saura\/\">Antonio Saura<\/a> brings biomorphic \u200bundulation to the composition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resulting decor plays against expectations, which is precisely what the firm aimed for. \u201cFor me, the house is very fantasy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A post-and-lintel marble fireplace by Amsum &amp; Ash gives the interior a sense of classical proportion and sleek serenity, while a bone-toned rug by Rosecore provides a monochrome foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe concept for this space was a white button-down shirt with fantastic jewelry,&#8221; says Victoria Sass, founder and design director of Prospect Refuge. &#8220;We kept the architecture quiet and let the art, sculptural furniture and textiles do the talking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For suppleness, there&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/vanguard-studios\/furniture\/\">Vanguard<\/a>\u200b Brandt sofa upholstered in Casamance fabric and topped with earth-toned pillows in funky patterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A marquetry table by Mexican artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/fernando-laposse\/furniture\/\">Fernando Laposse<\/a>, a custom amoeba-like cocktail table and a tree-themed artwork from the homeowners\u2019 collection contribute more organic notes in their materials and patterns. Kalmar<\/a> chandelier looms over a pair of bespoke cardinal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/seating\/sectional-sofas\/\">sectionals<\/a>, which face a cluster of bleached-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/material\/sycamore\/\">sycamore<\/a> stumps used as tables, all gathered atop a plush <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/rugs-carpets\/origin\/moroccan\/\">Moroccan rug<\/a> custom-made for the space. It looks as though it had always been there and is now my client\u2019s favorite feature.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A contemporary yellow sconce by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/servomuto\/furniture\/\">Servomuto<\/a> stands out cheerfully against the pale plaster, while a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/charles-dudouyt\/furniture\/\">Charles Dudouyt<\/a> coffee table, Benjamin Claudel wooden vessel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/creators\/adrien-audoux-and-frida-minet\/furniture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adrien Audoux and Frida Minnet<\/a> rope lamp and repurposed outdoor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/fire-screen\/\">fire screen<\/a> impart curves and whimsy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The arrangement is completed by a pair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/buy\/hourglass-stool\/\">hourglass-shaped stools<\/a> wrapped in a countrified fabric, a 1960s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.com\/furniture\/seating\/lounge-chairs\/origin\/danish\/\">Danish lounge chair<\/a> and numerous custom creations tailored to this atypical project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI find it exciting,\u201d Rousseau says about designing around a fireplace. \u201cIt immediately dictates what the central feature is, and the challenge of creating efficient furniture layouts is key to good design.
