A fine and impressive set of six antique George V English sterling silver menu / card holders - boxed; an addition to our diverse dining silverware collection. These fine antique George V sterling silver menu card holders have circular shaped bases. Each piece is surmounted with an impressive wishbone* shaped design with a paralleling shaped support. The subtly convex bases are encircled with an elevated scalloped border. The weighted bases of these impressive menu holders are fitted with green baize to the underside. This impressive set of antique silver menu card holders is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, secured with two hinged catches. The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Robert Stewart (Jewellers) Ltd, 75 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow'. A wishbone, otherwise known as the furcular, is a forked bone found in birds and some dinosaurs. The main function of the bone is to provide strength between the neck and breast, to protect the creature during battle. The Ancient Romans perceived this bone as a symbol of luck which allowed the progression of breaking a dried chicken wishbone apart whilst making a wish; this procedure determined the person with the bigger half would receive their wish or have good fortune. This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver sugar caster has a baluster shaped form onto a spreading domed foot. The body of this large caster is embellished with impressive embossed and chased floral and scrolling leaf decoration, incorporating three scroll bordered cartouches; two feature a scale motif diaper pattern background and the other remains vacant. The silver caster retains the original hallmarked push fit cover, embellished with impressive panels of pierced decoration amidst scrolling floral spray and trellis decoration. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver pepper Shaker made by Liberty & Co Ltd in the Arts & Crafts style; an addition to our silver cruets or condiments collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver pepper Shaker has a tapering, rounded cylindrical shaped form with a swept domed foot. The body of this exceptional pepper is encircled with two applied bands of tiered leaf designs embellished with impressive two-toned enamel, all in the iconic Arts & Crafts style. The pepper is fitted with the original hallmarked screw fit cover with pierced 'pepper' holes to the domed portion. This exceptional example of antique silverware was crafted by the renowned silversmith Liberty & Co Ltd. Condition This antique pepper is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent condition. The enamel is in prefect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body are all very clear. A fine and impressive, unusual antique Victorian English sterling silver novelty pepper shaker; an addition to our diverse silverware collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver novelty pepper has a plain ovoid shaped form. The body of the pepper is embellished with impressive chased decoration depicting a cracked egg shell with a boy’s face and hands to the anterior surface and his feet and buttocks to the reverse. The body has pierced 'pepper' holes in a hexagram formation to the upper portion.
