Brandon Reese Sculptures
Caucasian
Artist, Brandon Reese, works primarily with stoneware and porcelain. He received his BFA in sculpture from the Kansas City Art Institute where he became proficient in bronze, cast iron, steel, wood and ceramics. While in Kansas City he apprenticed with Jim Leedy until pursuing a graduate degree specializing in ceramics at Bowling Green State University. There, he had the privilege of working with artists Jun Kaneko, Don Reitz and Peter Voulkos. While at Bowling Green, he focused on salt and wood firing for creating unusual and varied surfaces on each sculpture. Upon graduation, Reese was hired by Oklahoma State University as an assistant professor of its newly expanded ceramics department. In addition to teaching, Reese regularly exhibits his large-scale ceramic sculptures. His work has been exhibited in Germany, and Taiwan. Galleries all across the United States represent his work. Additionally, Brandon creates corporate and private commissioned work for high profiled celebrities and clients. He also is a part of several permanent museum collections. Although most of Reese’s exhibitions are ceramic sculpture, he balances teaching the hand-building techniques with wheel throwing pottery and functional vessels.(Biography provided by Exhibit by Aberson)

Objects both functional and decorative, factor into the banality and routineness of daily life. As the current political and social climate continues to shift, She seeks to compare past and present means of the production of goods and labor. Surface design inspired by vintage textile prints from family quilts and other historical motifs appear in Kline's work. The vessel acts as a stand in for the body and a metaphor for preservation. Kline's series of jars and jugs are intended to preserve memories of family members and places by using specific colors, patterns and objects she remembers from childhood to the present.
Rachel Hubbard Kline is an art educator and artist in her hometown Kansas City, MO.
With a background in fashion and art history, she explores relationships of fine art and craft in the disciplines of drawing, painting, ceramics, and fiber. Hubbard draws on her Midwestern roots and ties to rural farm life to reflect on past ways of life based on collections and artifacts.
Hubbard Kline has been the recipient of educator residencies at the Kansas City Art Institute, a participant in the Connecting Collections teacher institute in New York, and Educator Conferences and AP Teacher Training at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Park University in 2010, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Connecticut in 2007, and attended Parsons School of Design. She is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Brandon Reese’s focus on experimentation and varying techniques relates to his belief that the best part of life is the process, “My art wears the fingerprints, cuts, dents and other texturing as a roadmap and documentation of its creation.” He works primarily with stoneware and porcelain. Reese’s most recent pieces combine salt-glazed stoneware and reclaimed native wood. His work is predominately known for its simple, familiar forms created in a variety of methods and at such large scales that the pieces push the traditional boundaries of ceramic art.

Courses Taught
Ceramics I - Introduction to all facets of clay: throwing, hand-building, mixing clay, glazes recipes, and firing kilns of various designs and atmospheres.
Ceramics II - Expansion of the foundational instruction of Ceramics I. Continuation of ceramic skills in all areas. Development of personal development and interests encouraged by research projects and increased firing responsibilities.
Ceramic Studio - Individualization of research projects and continued conceptual and technical development focusing on producing a portfolio for BFA exhibition.
Drawing I - Introduction to drawing focusing on observational and technical skills.
2-D Design - Introduction to two-dimensional design principles and color.

Studio Construction - Appointed. Worked with the Architectural Services in the planning of new studios in Sculpture,
Jewelry/Metals, Ceramics, and Printmaking. Designed floor plan for ceramics studio, work areas, storage areas, glaze room,
clay mixing and kiln room, and outdoor kiln yard and workspace. Coordinated architects, engineers, and contractors to meet
drainage, ventilation, and equipment specifications.

Pittsburg, KS. Field trip to Mission Clay Ceramic Pipe Factory in Pittsburg, KS to see the kilns unloaded of Jun
Kaneko’s three- year project which was his largest ceramic project to date. Also took factory tour of this
facility which produces the largest ceramic pipe in the world.
BFA Senior Exhibitions. Helped coordinate and install graduating ceramic senior exhibitions in both fall and
