Miami Crypto Man With Coconut Palms by the Pool mixed media wisconsin artist
By David Barnett
Located in Milwaukee, WI
This is a mixed media collage created by the gallery's own Director/Founder! Elements involved are archival inkjet prints, Dr. Ph. Martin's acrylics, and iridescent acrylic on white woven paper. All are mounted to rag mat board. David Barnett's Miami Crypto Man series of 2001 bridges the personal memory of the artist and art history. The figure's jacket has the look of textiles, but the work is a mixed media collage. An homage to the Surrealists, particularly Rene Magritte, the work uses the medium of collage employed by the Dadaists and Surrealists to create the effect of defamiliarization. The work consists of a figure wearing a patterned blue jacket with a sand dollar head and images of a Florida resort...

'Anticipating Spring' signed artist's proof giclee print on watercolor paper
By David Barnett
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Anticipating Spring' is an artist's proof giclée print on watercolor paper after the original 2003 watercolor. Recalling the works of post-impressionist Henri Matisse, Barnett's vibrant watercolors depict a panoply of flowers that engage each of the viewer's senses. The subtle gradations in hue suggest textural changes on the flower petals, while the luminous white space between the flowers functions as an aromatic haze, lush and intoxicating. The tonal sensitivity that Barnett is able to elicit from watercolor perfectly complements the flowers' total engagement of the viewer's sensorium. Giclée print on watercolor paper after original 2003 watercolor AP II/XXV 25.625 x 41 inches, print 37.5 x 55.75 inches, frame Signed and dated in lower right "AP II/XXV" written in lower left Framed to conservation standards using archival materials including 100 percent rag matting, UF5 Plexiglas to inhibit fading, and housed in a gold finish wood moulding. 'Leonardo & Rodin Dreaming of Jona Lisa' original signed mixed media collage
By David Barnett
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Leonardo & Rodin Dreaming of Jona Lisa' is an original mixed media collage, signed and dated by the artist in the lower right. Part of Barnett's 'Famous Artist Series,' this vibrant collage pays homage to artists Leonardo da Vinci and Aguste Rodin by staging a visual conversation between their oeuvres. Below da Vinci's self-portrait, the Mona Lisa dreams of Rodin's thinker, played by artist and Barnett's close friend Joan Dvorsky, whom Barnett has nicknamed 'Joan of Art' and 'Jona Lisa,' an allusion to Joan d'Arc and the Mona Lisa respectively. The scene is surrounded by Rodin's figural drawings of dynamic nude forms in the upper and lower left and upper right corners of the composition. Although principally an homage to da Vinci, Rodin, and Dvorsky, the composition features a number of other artistic 'easter eggs' like the glass flowers that surround Dvorsky—the work of artist Dale Chihuly at the Garfield Park Conservatory—and the birch bark next to Dvorsky, a sample taken from Barnett's own 'Birch Bark Series.' Mixed media iridescent acrylic collage signed and dated lower right 23.5 x 20.875 inches, art 35.625 x 32.9375 inches, frame Signed and dated in lower right Framed to conservation standards using archival materials including 100 percent rag matting with a 1/4 inch beige bevel, Museum Glass to inhibit fading and reduce glare, and housed in a rosewood-style wood moulding. 'Reindeer' original signed watercolor painting, winter ice mountains reindeer
By David Barnett
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Reindeer' is an original watercolor painting, signed by the artist in the lower right corner. As the sun rises over a blue and green mountain range, a reindeer scans the snow-covered horizon of the tundra. Barnett's use of watercolor is minimalistic, allowing the untouched areas of the canvas to imitate snow and the reindeer's stark and branching antlers to mimic leafless trees during the winter months. When color does appear, it is used to depict the reflection of the sun's light off of a frozen river. Watercolor painting 18.75 x 16.375 inches, artwork 19.75 x 17.25 inches, frame Signed in lower right Framed to conservation standards using archival materials including 100 percent rag mounting materials, plexiglass to inhibit fading, and housed in a silver finish wood moulding. 'Desert Mountain Paths' original signed watercolor painting on notepad paper
By David Barnett
Located in Milwaukee, WI
David Barnett's 'Desert Mountain Paths' is an exercise in using limited materials. Depicting the winding paths of Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, AZ, the composition simulates found art for Barnett's use of notepad paper from a local hotel as his canvas. Zig-zagging and curved lines suggest striations in the rocks and also the meandering path of hikers and other passersby. Barnett even incorporates the Desert Mountain logo at the top of the page into the composition as the summit resting on the edge of the horizon. Watercolor on notepad paper 6 x 4 inches, artwork 11.75 x 9.75 inches, frame Signed and dated lower left. Framed to conservation standards using archival materials including 100 percent rag mounting materials, Museum Glass to inhibit fading and reduce glare, and housed in a gold finish wood moulding. 'Morph Dog Series: Celebration' signed artist's proof I/XXV giclée print
By David Barnett
Located in Milwaukee, WI
‘Celebration’ is an artist’s proof giclée print, signed and dated by the artist in the lower right. This piece is a part of Barnett’s ‘Morph Dog Series,’ so named for his use of a “morph dog”—a dog-shaped foam sculpture that transforms into a cube when turned inside out—to paint. Against a muted horizon, multicolored rings ignite the sky like fireworks as confetti cascades to the bottom of the frame; rows of morph dogs further ornament the display in red and blue. Giclée print on watercolor paper AP I/XXV 48 x 36 in, print 57.5 x 46.75 in, frame Signed and dated in lower right "AP I/XXV" in lower left Framed to conservation standards using archival materials including 100 percent rag matting and housed in a gold finish wood moulding. 'Mother's Day Bouquet' signed giclée print on watercolor paper floral still-life
By David Barnett
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Mother's Day Bouquet' is a giclée print on watercolor paper, signed by the artist in the lower right. Atop a checkered placemat rests a bouquet of flowers in a vase. Foregoing botanical realism, Barnett has opted instead to present a uniform floral profile, emphasizing how their colors work as an ensemble rather than foregrounding any distinct physiological differences. The composition’s flattened perspective also resembles the works of another painter of flowers—Henri Matisse—from whom Barnett draws inspiration. Giclée print on watercolor paper after original 2004 mixed media 7 x 5 in, print 13.25 x 10.75 in, frame Signed lower right Framed to conversation standards using archival materials including 100 percent rag matting, UF5 plexiglass to inhibit fading, and housed in a gold finish wood moulding.
