Jean Desses couture garments are rare, unique and highly collectible. This exquisite gown dates back to 1960 when Jean Desses housed his couture at the famous 17, Avenue Matignon address. According to the provenance, it was custom made for Jean Dessès client, the Argentine & Parisian socialite Mme. Erna de Paz Ortiz Basualdo, and is therefore one of a kind. Fashioned from exquisite flocked red roses floral silk-satin, this garment has everything a woman wants. I adore the low-cut plunge corset strapless bodice with a double sided self-fabric panel which can be flipped up as a shawl-wrap! According to Ann Poulon in the Oxford Art Designer Entry, “Dessès often incorporated convertible elements into his collections, such as necklines that could be adjusted, or boleros that appeared as though they were one with a dress, but could be removed in a more formal setting. He also made aprons [attached on both the front and the back of dresses and gowns] that doubled as capes, and removable overskirts that allowed the gown to range from dinner wear to evening wear.” The workmanship and time spent to construct this red carpet show-stopper is astonishing and it is a true piece of museum quality fashion...
