He is the most famous modeller Meissen manufactory ever had and created famous series such as Shepherd Figurines, Comedian's Children, Gardener Children (with Acier), Paris Town Criers (with Reinicke and Meyer) , Gallant Figurines, etc. KAENDLER DESIGNED THIS FIGURINE GROUP (MODEL 250) CIRCA 1741. SUBJECT: COUPLE MAKING MUSIC SCARAMUZ AND COLOMBINE Both figurines - a most elegant lady clad in crinoline, further wearing a mantle as well as a stocking cap, and Scaramuz * playing a lute - are very busy with making music: He - touching the lute's strings - glances at the book with music notes which is held in lady's hands / she seems to do an animated discussion, raising her right arm in affective manner ... It is a LOVELY COUPLE, indeed ! * Scaramuz is a funny figurine of Italian folk / popular theatre Commedia dell’arte. - The word derives from Italian term Scaramuccia, called Scaramuzzo, too, and means 'skirmish' - referring most probably to a sparring match. This figurine is called 'Scaramouche' in French language / 'Scaramouch' is known as loudmouth / big mouth in English language. - Skaramuz is clad in black garments, being dressed in Spanish style. He is the type of Italian adventurer as well as boaster / swaggerer deriving from Naples (Italy). - Skaramuz is very often whacked by Arlecchino at end of story in tradition of Commedia dell'Arte.
