Karl Fred Dahmen Prints and Multiples

German, 1917-1981
Karl Fred Dahmen (1917–1981) was a German painter, sculptor, and printmaker known for his dynamic abstract compositions and expressive use of color and form. Born in Stolberg, Germany, Dahmen initially trained as a blacksmith before studying painting at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He emerged as a prominent figure in the post-war German art scene, experimenting with various styles including abstraction and gestural painting. Dahmen's work often explored themes of nature, industrialization, and the human condition, reflecting his own experiences and observations of the world around him. Throughout his career, he exhibited extensively in Germany and internationally, gaining recognition for his innovative approach to art-making. Today, Dahmen's works can be found in major museums and collections worldwide, where they continue to captivate audiences with their vibrant energy and emotive power.

By Krishna Reddy
Located in Surfside, FL
A limited edition, hand signed in pencil intaglio etching on French Arches deckle edged art paper. Krishna Reddy (1925 – 2018) was an Indian master intaglio printmaker, sculptor, and teacher. He was considered a master intaglio printer and known for viscosity printing. Krishna Reddy was born on 15 July 1925, in a small village called Nandanoor, near Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, in India. Reddy studied at Visva-Bharati University's Kala Bhavana (Institute of Fine Arts) with Nandalal Bose, from 1941 to 1946, and graduated with a degree in fine arts. From 1947 to 1949, he was head of the art section at Kalakshetra Foundation and was also teaching art at the Montessori Teachers' Training Centre in Madras. It was at this time that he took interest in sculpture and painting. In 1949, he moved to London, and continued his sculpture studies with Henry Moore at the University of London's Slade School of Fine Arts. In 1950, Reddy moved to Paris and met artist Constantin Brâncuși. Through Brancusi, he was introduced to cafe discussions on art and met many famous artists during studio visits. During his time in Paris he studied sculpture under Ossip Zadkine and engraving under Stanley William Hayter. In 1957, he traveled to Accademia Di Belle Arti Di Brera (Brera Academy) in Milan to study under Marino Marini. Sigismond Kolos-Vari, 'Nets', color etching with soft-ground and aquatint, edition 200—1 of 60 artist's proofs, 1952. Signed and dated in pencil. Numbered L/LX in pencil. Image size 11 3/4 x 15 5/8 inches (298 x 397 mm); sheet size 15 x 22 1/4 inches (381 x 565 mm). A superb, richly-inked impression, on heavy, off-white, Arches wove paper; the full sheet with margins (1 3/8 to 3 1/2 inches), in excellent condition. Published by the Guide de la Gravure, Switzerland, with their blindstamp in the bottom left sheet corner. Matted to museum standards, unframed. ABOUT THE ARTIST Sigismond Kolos-Vari (1899-1983) was born in Hungary and attended the School of Applied Arts in Budapest from 1915-1918, and then the School of Decorative Arts until 1925. The artist settled in Paris and his first one-man show in 1928 at Galerie Miromesnil, which was highly successful, led to numerous subsequent exhibitions including the prestigious Galerie Bonaparte in 1929, and Galerie Povolosky in 1930. Kolos-Vari’s early success was abruptly interrupted by the outbreak of WWII. Imprisoned in a German concentration camp, he managed to escape after two years, crossing the border into Switzerland. After the war he returned to Paris and dedicated himself to his painting, producing increasingly powerful compositions. His work was highly acclaimed when shown at the important 1946 exhibition at the Musée National d’Art Moderne de Paris, organized by Jean Cassou. The artist was subsequently approached by the eminent art dealer Jean Bucher who gave Kolos-Vary a major one-man show at his gallery in 1948. During this post-war period Kolos-Vary participated in the avant garde exhibitions the Salon de Mai, 1949-1958, the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, 1956-1961, and the Salon des Comparaisons, 1960-1962. Supported by his association with Stanley William Hayter and the landmark printmaking workshop, Atelier 17...

Reflections III
By Louise Nevelson
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Caviar20 is excited to be offering this evocative print by the inimitable Louise Nevelson - one of the most revered and unique sculptors of the 20th century. Nevelson is renowned for her mysterious and complex artworks. She was an active printmaker, experimenting with different techniques and approaches while working with some of the best print-making studios in the United States. Nevelson, whether working in sculpture or in two dimensions typically had a strict palette; almost exclusively black. While there are iconic works in white, gold, or raw wood, Nevelson almost entirely avoids color. However, during the last decade of her life, her palette expanded notably with her printmaking. "Reflections III" is an example from her 1983 portfolio, "Reflections I-V" consisting of six large-scale prints. These prints contain signature elements found throughout Nevelson's prints; ripped or collage-like forms as well as the use of fabric, lace, and toile in the printing process. However one of the strongest characteristics of the "Reflections" series is her new uninhibited use of color. Here it is used to maximum effect. This work features unexpected elements of fuchsia, crimson, and Prussian blue that punctuate her signature layered collage-like composition. Nevelson's late prints are truly some of her best. Over the last few years, there has been tremendous momentum in both interest and appreciation of Nevelson's work. In May of 2021, a new auction record of $1.35 million was established for one of Nevelson's signature white construction sculptures...
