Kate Brett Art

b. 1963

Kate Brett graduated with a BA in three dimensional design and then went on to complete an MA in fine art print from the Wimbledon College of Arts in London. She then established her practice as an independent artist working from her studio in South West London and also holds a position as a Fine Art tutor at the Mander Portman Woodward College in London. Brett's work is mainly derived from images of commuters or sections of graphics taken on the road, in stations or at airports and offers a fleeting glimpse of the transient nature of our lives. Her compositions create a sense of city life, a snippet of conversation, body language, a pigeon picking its way through the complexity of relationships both physical and human or graphic images dividing the space. The reliefs with square elements are about mnemonics, about visual mind mapping in the urban landscape. Brett encourages discovering a visual diary about an imaginary day or time. Her work with round elements is based on the concept of loss and searching. She uses a variety of materials to create a sense of movement within a tight framework, exploring the relationship between empty and crowded spaces. Generally, her work is printed and drawn onto high fired porcelain, which is symbolic in its nature of the fragility of our existence. Recently, she has started creating paintings on canvas based on the same concepts as her ceramic works. Brett’s work has been exhibited in Europe and the USA and is part of many private collections. She has also been awarded prestigious residencies in Sydney, Japan and Berlin.

'I'll Be Back, ' by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting
By XVALA
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
'I'll Be Back,' by XVALA is a mixed media painting and colorful screen print with iridescent oil stick painting featuring the theme of the 'New World Order.' It was produced in 2015/16. The phrase 'I'll Be Back' is printed on the top and bottom margins of the work with the words 'New World Order' on the top margin. Three heads are stacked in the center of the canvas with the 'all seeing eye' on the top of the head. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His 'Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and 'No Delete' used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...
