Keimpe van der Kooi “Making people happy and happy with my work, I think that's what I like the most”.
Keimpe van der Kooi's colorful oil paintings have become an integral part of the contemporary art landscape. Since graduating from the Classical Academy of Groningen in 2010, Keimpe van der Kooi's most famous subject consists of colorful still lifes. In addition, he also knows how to find his way in the landscape and regularly paints models. Keimpe van der Kooi is winner of Dutch TV -show: 'Paint the Stars' where his portrait of a Dutch TV--host was chosen by her to take home. Together with a very successful graduation-show the start of a successful and colorful career as a painter.
Each painting is a refined composition of bright or greyed, cool and warm, contrasting and mutually reinforcing colours, in dark and light tones. Shiny pots, shiny bowls, colorful and dull rugs, fresh flowers and sparkling sunlight, spring and a beautiful day outside, a figure or landscape in the radiant sun.
Everything arranged 'as if in a coincidental composition', the artist offers the viewers above all 'a spectacle of light, colour, contrast and relationships'.
To be able to do this as strongly as possible, Keimpe van der Kooi works 'after life'. This means that he has the still life in front of him while sitting at his easel. Illuminated by a window with light from outside, or the model 'posing in the light', the landscape as it presents itself where the donkey is placed. The artist about this:

This Painting is made by Dutch Artist Keimpe van der Kooi. He likes to paint still-lifes in colorful ambiance. In his paintings there always will be cloths, bowls, flowers and a beautiful sunlight.
As an artist, he already made a name for himself in various ways. He participated and won 'Stars on the canvas', is now a teacher at the Classical Academy where he teaches third-year students everything about color. He has many successful exhibitions behind his name and his work has been sold all over the world. Keimpe also publishes a lot about art and artists in magazines such as Atelier and Palet.
The beautiful place where Keimpe has his studio since two years is located in Drenthe. At the edge of forests and fields, Keimpe can retire and concentrate on his still lifes, portraits, landscapes and gardens. The latter subject, garden and landscape, can also be seen during the exhibition 'Rhythm, stillness and movement'. Come on 'is the work where Keimpe painted his own garden. An inviting path almost literally enters the garden. Tuinen made his tutor Matthijs Röling, gardens also made Keimpe van der Kooi himself. We see similarities but also many differences. We see the beautiful colors that we know from Keimpe's still lifes in his garden. Purple, yellow and red flowers grow along the garden path of Keimpe, the colors and details disappear to the back so that you have the feeling to look into the depth. Magnificent.
Keimpe also painted a sandy path in Drenthe for this exhibition. In the summer light the green colors get a warm glow. The coil with the shadow also ensures that you can walk down the path, the depth in the work is enormous. As a result, you do not hang a flat painting on the wall, but you get space!
