Dream a Little Dream (Detailed Blue Ball-Point Drawing of a Forest Landscape)
By Linda Newman Boughton
Located in Hudson, NY
Realistic blue ball-point drawing of a lush country forest landscape "Dream a Little Dream", original drawing made in 2022 by Linda Newman Boughton ballpoint pen ('Rite in the Rain' permanent and waterproof ink) on archival paper 54 x 48 inches unframed, 55.25 x 48.75 inches with a custom wood frame with gold leaf interior and protected with Tru Vue Museum Glass (blocks 99% of UV rays, eliminates reflections, optimal light transmission to brighten colors) Signed by the artist Excellent condition and ready to hang Some might struggle to associate impressionist painting and drawing with a ballpoint pen medium, but one of Linda Newman Boughton’s opulent landscape drawings in signature blue ink is a masterclass in the art of immediacy and movement. Linda Newman Boughton’s Baroque inspired landscape "Dream a Little Dream" captures a lush Hudson Valley forest in vivid detail. Taking four months to create, the original drawing was made entirely using the artist's favorite brand of “Rite in the Rain” waterproof blue-ink pen. Working from a photograph, Boughton employed a variation of pen strokes, combining gestural lines that serve as the drawing’s foundation, with tighter strokes to develop the sections of intricate detail. From a wild and tangled web of lines emerges identifiable forms, such as a complex root system or a bushy canopy of leaves. The work itself feels kinetic; millions of mark makings vibrate with an energy that stems from a sacred connection to nature. Boughton’s passion for the arts began early, as she acted, made art, and designed theatrical sets throughout her youth. She went on to study fashion illustration at Florida State University before transferring to F.I.T in New York City. Experience in the fashion world and her love for theatre soon landed her jobs in Hollywood, painting sets and murals for feature films such as Nightmare on Elm...

The artist lives in Ghent, NY with her husband where she continues to make art and write and create show ideas for television. Artist Bio: Linda grew up in an artistic and theatrical family in Tampa, Florida. Drawing and painting always felt effortless and fun for her. Acting and designing in theatre also made up much of her early years. Her first choice in higher education was at Florida State University where she was a theatre major and had an art minor. At the University drawing skills were emphasized, and with a love of drawing people, she found herself in a fashion illustration class, loving every minute of it. Nimrod Burke (Large Black & White Ballpoint Pen Civil War Soldier Portrait)
By Linda Newman Boughton
Located in Hudson, NY
60 x 48 inches black ballpoint pen drawing on cotton Arches paper. Hung with two dark red powder coated aluminum bars. This large, vertical black and white ballpoint pen drawing was made by Linda Newman Boughton in 2011. The dramatic yet modern drawing on strong cotton Arches paper is a depiction of a notorious photograph taken by Mathew Brady of Nimrod Burke, an African American solider who was born into a slavery and went on to fight in the American Civil War as First Sergeant of the 36th Ohio Infantry. The extremely detailed portrait is made solely with black ballpoint pen. Under close inspection one can see the multitude of sweeping and crosshatching lines the artist used to create the portrait. The work is signed in the lower right corner. It is installed with two dark red powder coated aluminum bars so one can suspend the work from a wall without having it framed behind glass. There is a traction strip to grip the paper along the inside of each aluminum bar. About the work: Linda Newman Boughton’s life-sized ballpoint pen drawings of notorious Civil War soldiers...

The Seen (Realistic Landscape Blue Ballpoint Pen Drawing of Forest & Waterfall)
By Linda Newman Boughton
Located in Hudson, NY
Realistic landscape drawing of trees in a forest with a waterfall made with blue ballpoint pen on white cotton Arches paper "The Seen", made by Linda Newman Boughton in 2020 Detailed landscape made using blue ball point pen with waterproof ink on cotton Arches paper 40 x 29 inches unframed, 42 x 31 inches with a natural wood frame with non-glare glass Signed, lower right Excellent condition, ready to hang as is Linda Newman Boughton’s Baroque inspired landscape drawings made entirely with blue ball point pens. To create the intricate depictions of untouched forests, the artist uses her favorite brand of “Rite in the Rain” waterproof pens and employs a variation of pen strokes. Loose, gestural lines serve as the drawing’s foundation, while certain sections are built up with tight strokes to develop finer details. Near completion, Boughton applies more kinetic linework to the detailed areas to keep them from feeling tight, also to embody the energy of the forest plants themselves. This technique abstracts the landscape just enough for the viewer to realize the scene is not derived from life but rather from an imaginative realm. Boughton’s passion for the arts began early, as she acted, made art, and designed theatrical sets throughout her youth. She went on to study fashion illustration at Florida State University before transferring to F.I.T in New York City. Experience in the fashion world and her love for theatre soon landed her jobs in Hollywood, painting sets and murals for feature films such as Nightmare on...
