Italian, 1891-1965
A love of tradition set Mario Buccellati and his fine jewelry house apart in the competitive Italian market and remains a point of pride for the family.
In 1919, Mario launched Buccellati with the opening of his first shop in Milan and quickly built a reputation for his richly embellished traforato, or finely pierced goldwork. The Ancona, Italy–born jeweler’s workmanship was in a class of its own. His rings, earrings, bracelets and other accessories were exquisite, yet the gemstones themselves were never too flashy, elevated instead by the designs’ intricate metalsmithing.
Today the Buccellati family is still closely tied to the business even as it is now owned by Richemont, a luxury conglomerate that also counts Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels among its subsidiaries.
A young Mario Buccellati apprenticed with famed goldsmith Beltrami e Besnati in the early 1900s, although many of the goldsmithing techniques synonymous with Buccellati go as far back as the Italian Renaissance. The family lineage is also said to include 18th-century jeweler Contardo Buccellati.
Owing to the founder’s advanced metalworking skills, the brand is known for designs that feature metal with the delicacy of lace and draw on the wonders of the natural world. The house’s work is typified by intricate gemstone settings that emphasize their natural color and dense engraving techniques that transform the texture of gold.
One of the time-honored engraving techniques that has come to characterize Buccellati’s work — techniques that require apprenticeships and training in the fine jeweler’s workshops — is called rigato. It involves the engraving of a precious metal with a series of parallel lines to achieve a fabric-like effect.
Rigato is on luminous display in the house’s Macri collection of earrings, cuff bracelets and other accessories. A painstaking attention to detail is pronounced in the celebrated Macri, Bartolomeo and Unica collections — witness the striking honeycomb motif, a house signature, that characterizes the Unica collection’s Caterina bracelet, for example.
The Macri collection was the work of Mario’s son, Gianmaria Buccellati, an award-winning jeweler and internationally renowned silversmith who worked to bring the brand to the global stage by overseeing the opening of boutiques in Tokyo, Paris, California and elsewhere.
In 1951, Mario opened his first store in New York City; today the company operates boutiques worldwide. In 2019, the company celebrated its centennial with a new flagship in Paris and the Vintage collection, which features some of its most enduring designs.

This sculptured bangle bracelet carries four antique coins. All the coins are bezel set and mounted into beautiful, pierced frames. Two gold framed carved jade elements have gorgeous floral design.
The bracelet’s gold texture has an effect of a fabric which is a unique gold finish of the maker.
This fabulous bangle bracelet was created by Mario Buccellati in Italy in the 1960s. It is made of 18 karat yellow gold and features two oval carved jade medallions and four antique gold coins:
1) An Austrian 8 Florins / 20 Francs coin, depicting a head of emperor Franz Joseph I (c.1892)
2) A Swiss gold 20 Francs coin with an allegorical female figure as the national symbol of Switzerland (c.1935)
3) A gold French coin of 20 Francs, with a Napoleon III facing right portrait (c.1868)
4) An Italian 20 Lire gold coin, depicting a head of emperor Vittorio Emanuele II (c.1862).
The vintage bracelet measures 6 1/2" x 1 1/8” (16.5 x 2.8 cm) and fits up to 6 1/4" (15.5 cm) wrist.
The vintage Buccellati bangle weighs 92.0 grams.
This vintage bangle is stamped with Mario Buccellati maker's mark, hallmark for 18 karat gold.

Beautiful oversized clips-on earrings, made in Milan Italy by the famous jewelry house of Buccellati, back in the late 1970's. These rare pieces were designed with a baroque revival style in the shape of an oversized three dimensional leafs. They was carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karat, with the entire surface finished with the characteristic and iconic Buccellati's etched intricate patterns. Fitted with omega backs for fastening clips and the addition of posts for pierced ears can be easily done.

Measurements: 32 mm by 31 mm by 6 mm (1.26 x 1.22 x 0.24 Inches).

A stunning Mario Buccellati coral bead necklace featuring a diamond and 18k gold ornate clasp. This vintage Buccellati necklace is composed of ten coral strands with the beads of irregular sizes. The strands are bundled together by the gold barrel shape clasp. The clasp is a true piece of art portraying Buccellati’s best practices. It’s made of amazingly textured 18 karat yellow and white gold with a detailed floral design. The white gold leaves are adorned with rose cut diamonds. This clasp with a box closure can be worn upfront as a pendant.
With coral getting extremely rare, this Buccellati coral necklace is a beautiful piece and a great investment as well.
This fabulous multi-strand coral bead necklace was created by Mario Buccellati in Italy in the 1950's. It features ten strands of Mediterranean coral connected with a diamond and an 18 karat yellow and white gold clasp. The necklace has a lot of volume and can be worn with the clasp either on the back (more casual look) or on front/side (dressier look). It can be also worn as a bracelet. The coral beads measure from 5.5 - 4.6 mm to 2.9 - 2.4 mm.
The vintage necklace measures 24" x ¾” (60 x 2 cm). The clasp measures 1-1/8" x 1" (3 x 2.5 cm).
The necklace measures 158.5 grams.
It is stamped with Mario Buccellati maker's mark, hallmark for 18 karat gold and country of manufacture.
Mario Buccellati (1891-1965) established the first brand’s store in Milan in 1919. He was titled “the Prince of Goldsmiths” by poet Gabriele D’Annunzio because of an extraordinary ability to turn gold and silver into luxury art objects. This ability through the years has been the core of Buccellati’s style.
Buccellati design is highly recognizable due to multiple engraving and piercing techniques applied to the pieces. Texture of gold recreating the look of Venetian lace, linen and tulle created by handmade Italian techniques inherited through generations.

We are very excited to present this wonderful handcrafted bracelet by Mario Buccellati. The two tone bracelet consists of woven gold ovals of alternating 18 karat yellow and 18 karat white gold that has been woven or braided. The interlocked links have then been very finely brushed to give a softer matte finish which could be described as a Florentine finish. The bracelet features a tongue and box clasp and two figure of eight safety catches which are all incorporated into an integrated link clasp. The clasp and safety catches are working well and are secure, ensuring the piece stays on tightly with three points of attachment. Whilst this bracelet is on the smaller side in terms of its circumference it certainly makes up for that in its quality craftsmanship by arguably Italy's most highly regarded goldsmith, Mario Buccellati.
