From 1929 to her death in 1952, Emily Hoffmeier (1888-1952) spent summers on Nantucket, painting in the waterfront studios—first Harborview No. 3 and later moving to the Red Anchor Studio on Washington Street. She exhibited in the Easy Street Gallery, the Candle House Studio, and later at the Kenneth Taylor Galleries. After the death of Maud Stumm in 1935, Hoffmeier took over the direction of the annual Sidewalk Art Show, which she ran for the next eighteen years “with untiring cheerfulness and unflagging interest.” She was one of the founding members of the Artists Association of Nantucket and served on its first executive committee.
A graduate of Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachuetts, Hoffmeier taught art classes at the college for several years. Morris Hall Pancoast (1877 – 1963) Born in Salem, New Jersey, Morris Hall Pancoast was a painter, illustrator, and cartoonist. He took night courses at Drexel University and enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under Thomas Anshutz in 1897. He then went to Paris to further his studies at the Académie Julian with Jean Paul Laurens from 1902-1905. While in Paris, he met Minnie Leahy, the woman that would become his wife. Upon his return to the United States, Pancoast settled in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, near the home of his close friend and mentor, Thomas Anshutz. He joined the Art Department of the Philadelphia Inquirer from 1905 until 1907, and then worked as a cartoonist for the Philadelphia North American newspaper from 1907 to 1919. In 1912, he and Minnie were married. By the early 1920s, Pancoast’s painting career was flourishing. His popular impressionist landscapes of Pennsylvania and New England tows were regularly being accepted into major exhibitions around the country, and, in 1924, he was awarded Gold Medal by the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Around this time, he and his wife began spending summers in Rockport, Massachusetts, where they would eventually reside full time. He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Philadelphia Sketch Club; the Salmagundi Club; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Brooklyn Museum; the Corcoran Gallery Biennials; the Society of Independent Artists; the National Academy of Design; the Golden Gate Exposition in San Francisco; the Allied Artists of America; the Norfolk Art...

Joy Brown on her work: "My figures speak to me of that peaceful place in myself - calm, open, aware."
Joy Brown was born in Japan and spent the first 18 years of her life there. After completing her fine arts degree in the United States, she returned to Japan to complete a rigorous apprenticeship in traditional Japanese ceramics with a 13th generation master potter, Ichino Toshio, further defining her aesthetic.
Brown works with high-fire stoneware clay that is fired in a 30-foot long Japanese style wood-firing tunnel kiln (anagama). For the past 20 years Joy has also worked in bronze, making figures from small to larger-than-life size. Currently, Joy has been completing various commissions in China for public spaces.
Joy Brown’s work is in the public collections of many museums in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Leader was born in Worcester as Benjamin Leader Williams, the son, and first child of eleven children, of notable civil engineer Edward Leader Williams (1802–79) and Sarah Whiting (1801–88). His father was described as a "non conformist dissenter" and his mother was a Quaker – their marriage in an Anglican church resulted in them being disowned by the Society of friends.
Leader's father was a keen amateur artist – a friend of John Constable – and Benjamin would often accompany him on sketching trips along the banks of the River Severn.
