RAAK Amsterdam is best known for their organic modern design in the 1970s. RAAK which is Dutch for 'to strike' worked with local artists. Their designs combined glass and various metals for a sophisticated futuristic style. Willem van Oyen Sr. (1921-2004) was born in Amsterdam. He specialized in art glass, pioneering the applique technique. In 1947 he founded the studio 'BEVO' which designed and produced lamps for RAAK, of which, his best known are the 'Chartres' lighting inspired by the medieval stained glass...
