Available today, this Brazilian armchair set, model MP-13, designed by Percival Lafer in Hardwood and Beige Italian leather, 1960s is nothing less than fabulous!
The super comfy armchairs feature a Brazilian rosewood (known as Jacaranda) base with four legs. The structure is upholstered in Italian Beige leather and has rosewood, steel finishes and leather buttons. The loose cushions around the arms give the piece a super inviting look.
The entire MP-13 set, two armchairs and sofa, is showcased in our gallery next to a Giuseppe Scapinelli coffee table looking simply spectacular (image).
Renovation for the entire set took almost 5 months. While the piece was intact from a structure point of view, we disassembled the pieces and strengthened the wood structure. In parallel, the metal was refinished removing all the rust. Then, the upholsterer started the hand stitching process of the italian leather, resulting in what you’re seeing in the pictures.
This set would look wonderful in any Mid-Century Modern, modern or contemporary environment.

Recently refinished armrests, along with new upholstery and a reinforced reclining mechanism, elevate the chair's appeal and functionality. Delicate metal legs provide a balanced design, enhancing the chair's harmonious aesthetic.
This set is another example of the awesome furniture work in Brazil between the 40-70's decades. A set like this will look great in any type of environment, from mid century to contemporary and modern design.
About the designer:
Ernesto Hauner was an Italian immigrant who came to Brazil in 1949 and began working in furniture design with renowned figures such as Lina Bo Bardi, Sérgio Rodrigues, Martin Eisler, and his brother Carlo Hauner. He started his career at Studio Palma, which later became Móveis Artesanal, and eventually became a partner at Forma Móveis e Objetos de Arte.

This gorgeous set features a steel structure painted in black and a seat & body backrest in new gray velvet upholstery with three buttons and delicate Brazilian Rosewood (known as Jacaranda) arms.
The restoration of the set took a few months because when I bought it the armchairs didn't have the Jacaranda arms, and every collector knows that the value of a piece is on the integrity of the piece, meaning original pieces and method. Finding Hauner’s wood arms took me to many antique markets until two months after I found the wood arms in a shop specialized in vintage furniture in Rio de Janeiro’s city center. Now the piece is complete!
These armchairs are so awesome that we’ve paired them in the gallery with other pieces and are always spectacular. The first furniture set showcases the armchairs with Scapinelli’s famous Acqua coffee table and Jorge Zalszupin Pullman sofa. Introducing a pair of cozy armchairs expertly crafted by Fatima during the 1960s, boasting a sturdy structure made from Brazilian Rosewood, commonly known as Jacaranda, and elegantly upholstered in a sophisticated off white boucle. The arms and legs of these armchairs are exquisitely sculpted, enhancing their overall aesthetic appeal. The deep color of the Rosewood further accentuates the shape of each armchair, while the wood itself has been skillfully refinished.
