An autumnal scene with classic "viktualienmarkt" that looks so much like the Munich Altstadt but is almost surely the park alongside the Prussian Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin. This is a very charming and beautiful painting. The Charlottenburg area was the seat of the Berlin Secessionist school of German progressive artists that espoused modern art, especially impressionism and expressionism. Max Liebermann in particular, a painter and printmaker, was one of the leading proponents of Impressionism in Germany and continental Europe, and a leading light of the Berlin Secessionism.
