1930's Ralph Cahoon Decorated Pine Blanket Chest with Family & Museum Provenance
Located in Nantucket, MA
Ralph Cahoon Decorated Pine Two Drawer Blanket Chest with Family and Museum Provenance, mid 1930s, a late 18th or early 19th Century New England pine blanket chest with hinged rectangular lid above case, over two drawers with wooden knob pulls, raised on bracket feet, hand painted by famous Cape Cod artist Ralph Cahoon in the manner of Swedish folk art "Dalmalning." The decoration features colorful stylized figures, buildings and flowers in yellow reserves on a blue ground. The chest is inscribed "Alice and John" and was in fact a wedding present from Ralph to his sister Alice Cahoon Atwood.
This chest is an early example of Ralph Cahoon's interest in the folk painting tradition from central Sweden, and appears to have preceded the stylized Pennsylvania Dutch Americana folk art he painted for his wife's family business. The piece remains in very good condition - structurally very sound, and the paint strong and bright, with a small amount of scuffs and scrape exposing the underlying primer.
The chest became the property of Cape Cod antiques...

Located in Nantucket, MA
Early Vintage Seascape with Portrait of a Schooner-Rigged Yacht, signed and dated Carl Schroeder, 1937, an un-tutored oil on canvas seascape painting with a port side view of a large schooner rigged racing yacht with all canvas aloft including topsails and staysails, smartly uniformed crew, captain and first mate visible on deck, a lookout posted on the foremast crosstrees, a burgee, pennant and flag flying on the fore and main peaks, with a one design class designation A-1 on the mainsail; a low-lying spit of land with red and white cottages is visible near in background beyond the bowsprit; signed and dated Carl Schroeder, 1937 in the lower right.
The painting is in near excellent condition, with only a stretcher line visible down the left side and one small pin hole on the right side. The painting is mounted in a contemporary carved an gilded frame.
The artist has not been identified, but the style and subject is consistent with either the American or Danish schools. The 1930s was a golden age decade for the J-Boats and other great ocean racing yachts. The A class designation suggests very large...

Genuin 1930s Arne Jacobsen “Paris Chair”
By Arne Jacobsen
Located in Vejle Øst, DK
Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) was one of the most visionary and progressive Danish architects of his time. He was admitted to the School of Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts from 1924 to 1927.
In 1929, two years after graduating from the School of Architecture, the only 27-year-old Arne Jacobsen won first prize for his ultra-modern concept "The House of the Future" at an exhibition held by the Academic Association of Architects. The house was built in full size for the exhibition, and was the first example of actual modernist architecture in Denmark.
The iconic Paris Armchair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1929 for a competition issued by the Kurvemagerforeningen. When he presented the famous "House of the Future" later that year, the chair was shown as part of the interior design.
Until World War II, the Paris lounge chair...
