Sarah Alexander
"Flutter", watercolor, abstract, green, blue, earth tones, mixed media, painting

2016

About the Item

In "Flutter", a 24 x 36 x 1.5 inch mixed media painting on canvas, Sarah Alexander continues to explore the grassy seedpods she has studied in previous work, but has begun to abstract the form, and has given it a weightless quality. The calm Malachite green, and Smalt Genuine blue of the background contrast with the rich earth tones and golds of the bold fluttering form. This painting is on gallery wrapped watercolor canvas that is sealed with a UV protective acrylic and has painted sides. No framing is required. Sarah Alexander is a contemporary mixed media artist with an emphasis on watercolor using unconventional surfaces and techniques. Her work is in private collections and has been shown extensively throughout New England, and abroad. Her work has been published by North Light Books. Alexander is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

I watched the desert blur by as I drove eighty-miles per hour on I-40. I couldn’t hear the bees. The Mohave backdropped a science-fiction film I watched from my couch...
