About the Item

This original color serigraph is hand signed by Victor Vasarely (Pécs, 1906 - Paris, 1997) in pencil in the lower right margin. Numbered from the edition of 275, this piece was published by Atelier Arcay, Paris. This piece is in excellent condition with bright and fresh colors. Depicting an optical illusion that fascinates the eye and captures the viewer's attention, Vasarely's revolutionary style and technique is exemplified in this piece. Comprised of bold hues and a complex composition, our senses are fully engaged when viewing this work. Vasarely's skill in creating a sense of the three-dimensional through the use of visual effects is apparent in this work, with an amorphic oval appearing to protrude out of the center of this piece. The combination of bold dark hues and lighter tints and tones adds to the feeling of volume within the shape in the center. Comprised of vibrant orange, bright green, deep blue, and shades of light blue, the complex arrangement of colors and shapes creates a pattern that not only plays with the sense of volume but also the interaction of color. The use of circles, squares, diamonds and triangles transforms these basic shapes into an intricate pattern. The total effect of this play on color and shape is visually stunning and impressive in the amount of thought and skill put into the arrangement of design elements. ABOUT THE FRAMING: Framed to archival, museum grade conservation standards, this piece is framed in a complementary moulding and optical grade Plexiglas.
