About the Item
"Wrapped Bottle" is a 1958 limited-edition original offset lithograph on hand-made cotton paper signed by Christo in the lower right hand corner. It is a stunning early work by Christo made in his atelier in Paris. It features an immense clarity, almost three-dimensionality and great debth. 100 x 80 cm, the work comes unframed.
Christo (1935-2020) arrived in March 1958 in Paris where he created his first wrapped cans and bottle. It started with a small, empty can then a bottle, of which there where many lying around in his studio. Christo wrapped the insignificant object in resin-soaked canvas, tied it up and coats the result with a mixture of glue, varnish and sand an da thin layer of dark-black or brown lacquer. He was not only interested in the concealement of the object, but also in the comparative analysis of the three-dimensional qualities of different objects, surfaces and materials.
