Eros et Aphrodite - Lithograph after Aubrey Beardsley - 1970

1970

About the Item

Eros et Aphrodite is an original lithograph realized after Aubrey Beardsley in 1970. The drawing is part of a 1970 "Eyes Open" edition fo "Les Erotiques de Beardsley". Edition of 499 specimens. Specimen on Japan Mat paper, in very good conditions. Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898) was an English illustrator, writer and painter, rather influential in theater environments at the time of Oscar Wilde. Beardsley’s feelings clearly prelude to the sensitivity of the twentieth century: the comic, the satirical, the playful, the fantasy liberated, the dreamlike, the nightmare, the fear, the horrid, the satanic, the death, the joy of living, the friendship, the love, the grotesque, the sexuality, the woman, the fetus, the nature. All this represented in a contrast between black and white, in a dialectic of marked lines, in a slight pointillism, in figures even more present because without relief, in stylizations and symbolism, with references to oriental motifs, with exaltation of the abstract line or with abundance of concrete details.
