One Thousand and One Night - The Presentation - 1906

1906

About the Item

Image dimensions: 17.8 x 13.8 cm. One Thousand and One Night - the Presentation is an amazing black and white héliogravure on paper, realized in 1906 by the Austrian artist Raphaël Kirchner (1876-1917). Signed on plate on the left margin at the center. This is the reproduction of the superb original charcoal drawing by the master: an original illustration for the German translation of the popular "One Thousand and One Nights" stories, a bookplate titled Das Buch der Tausend Nächte und der einen Nacht (C.W. Stern, 1906). Demonstrating the masterful draftsmanship, and graphic skills, an unmistakable new Art Nouveau illustration, with the fresh impression, wide margins, excellent conditions, represents an exotic display of Middle Eastern fashionable eroticism. A sensual gorgeous harem slave girl is hiding her face while an elder man helps to drape her in fabric, readying her for the passional night ahead. A great example of the early Kirchner's pin-up works will inspire the Peruvian painter Alberto Vargas and after him will crowd the general public with this artistic tendency and fashion. Raphaël Kirchner (1976-1917). Raphaël Kirchner was the Austrian artist, portrait painter and best-known as Art Nouveau illustrator of early pin-up work in the postcard format. His artwork will inspired artists like the Peruvian Alberto Vargas, who has a career for movies and men's magazine industry in United States.
