Stoneware pot by Bo Kristiansen (1944-1991)

1977

About the Item

Stoneware pot by Danish Artist/Ceramicist, Bo Kristiansen (1944-1991) A rotund and weighty stoneware pot in true Kristiansen style, (though uncharacteristically large), with layer upon layer of overlapping incised characters in earthy brown, green and vibrant blue glazes. Examples of his work on such a large scale, and in such excellent condition are becoming quite rare. This piece still has the label from Kristiansen’s “EGET VÆRKSTED”, (Own Workshop). This piece is from the estate collection of noted architect, designer and collector, Larry Freels (1937-2020). Freels was a frequent world traveler and acquired this piece on one of several trips to Denmark in the mid 1970’s.

Artist : Casey Whittier Title : Washcloth (Sherbet XOXO) Materials : earthenware, mason stains Date : 2017 Dimensions : 7 in x 9 in x .25 in Description : ceramic chainmail washcloth - sherbet orange, white, blue Casey Whittier received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her work investigates the fine line between the need to preserve and a desire to re-imagine, re-configure and re-contextualize the world around her. Utilizing a variety of forming methods and clay bodies, Whittier recreates elements from nature, unites the landscapes of her reality with the landscapes of daydreams, exploits the visceral qualities of clay, and ponders the power of shared experience. Through shifts in material, Whittier makes space for metaphorical possibilities to rise to the surface. An exploration of touch and intuitive making is deeply embedded in her studio practice and community-based projects.
