1990s Still-life Sculptures

Copper and wood box. "Americordo #7" is composed of copper tiles inlaid to the bottom half of the box and on the top rests a patinated etched copper or bronze circle. The box when closed measures to be 17" Sq. x 3.5" H. David Barr (1939-2015) is an American sculptor and painter from Detroit, MI. Known for constructivist sculpture, architecture and surrealist, assemblage box sculpture collage works. Born in 1939, Barr is an internationally known artists and has created many installations in natural settings. Vault took over a year to complete. His sculptures represent mathematics, geography and structurist nature, and otherwise known as "geo-structures." This one is kinetic and can be moved around. Barr is a graduate of Wayne State University and recipient of the WSU Distinguished Alumni Award. Influenced by sculptor Charles Biederman. In 1995 he founded the Michigan Legacy Art Park, and has pieces at the Chrysler World Headquarters, Flint's Bishop Airport, the Detroit Zoo, the State of Michigan Historical Museum and the Meadowbrook Festival Grounds Barr earned a master’s of fine arts degree from Wayne State University and was an associate professor of sculpture at Macomb Community College in Warren for 37 years. He worked on perhaps the largest sculpture in the world, the Four Corners Project, with installations at Greenland, Africa, Irian Jaya (New Guinea) and Easter Island. His sculptures are located all over the state of Michigan, but perhaps his most recognizable is Transcending, a blend of bronze, steel and granite that acknowledges the contributions of Detroit’s laborers and skilled tradespeople. David Barr is the founder of Michigan Legacy Art Park. David’s career as an artist, instructor, author and global thinker has crossed borders around the world, bringing people and ideas together. Over fifty years as a sculptor, David created a body of work that includes hundreds of wall-hanging structurist reliefs, sculptures for public spaces (such as Transcending in Hart Plaza, Detroit done with Sergio De Giusti), works for private collections, massive global projects (such as The Four Corners Project) and Michigan Legacy Art Park. David’s studio was in Detroit for fifteen years until he realized he needed nature as a source of inspiration. In 1977 he bought 4 acres of land in rural Oakland County (now Novi) and in 1979 built his home, a contemporary structure that has become the centerpiece of his own art park. Glick's creative genius, however, is most exquisitely shown in this unique grouping of objets d'art. The Wall Hanging has a lovely classical scroll shelf. The objets on the shelf include an apple and pear - both fruits frequently rendered by artists from the Dutch Masters to Cezanne because of their perfectly balanced shape and rich colors. Arman Original Bronze Violin Sculpture Edition: HC 1/2 Signed and Numbered Bronze Dimensions: 36 x 50 x 24 cm Arman is a painter who moved from using objects for the ink or paint traces they leave to using them as the painting itself. He is best known for his "accumulations" and destruction/recomposition of objects. In October 1960, Arman, Yves Klein, François Dufrêne, Raymond Hains, Martial Raysse, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely and Jacques Villeglé, and art critic and philosopher Pierre Restany founded the Nouveau réalisme group. Joined later by Cesar, Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Christo, the group of young artists defined themselves as bearing in common their "new perspective approaches of reality." They were reassessing the concept of art and the artist for a 20th century consumer society by reasserting the humanistic ideals in the face of Industrial Expansion. In 1961, Arman made his debut in the United States, the country which was to become his second home. During this period, he explored creation via destruction. The "Coupes" and the "Colères" featured sliced, burned, or smashed objects arranged on canvas, often using objects with a strong "identity" such as musical instruments (mainly violins and saxophones) or bronze statues. The son of an antiques dealer and amateur cellist, the artist absorbed an intense appreciation for music, the art of collecting and the cultivation of discriminating taste from an early age. After studies at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice, Arman decamped to Paris to study art history at the Ecole du Louvre. His work in these early years focused on abstract paintings inspired by the work of Nicolas de Staël. The Ballerina Before the Mirror of Life, Eduardo Oropeza, woman, ballerina The Ballerina Before the Mirror of Life, Eduardo Oropeza bronze sculpture brown limited bronze edition of 25 Cast in the USA Sculptor, painter, printmaker, & photographer, Eduardo Oropeza remains a commanding presence in contemporary art. He applied a high level of devotion and integrity to his artwork. After the many years he had been working at his chosen profession, he saw being an artist as a tremendous gift, which honored and humbled him. A native of California's San Joaquin Valley and long time resident of East Los Angeles, Oropeza's academic training began with the study of Sociology. After taking an art course, he ultimately changed majors and received a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from San Jose State. Postgraduate work followed at San Jose, San Diego State at Long Beach, and Palomar College. Oropeza’s contribution to public art in Los Angeles can be seen in a ceramic mosaic covering the 2 story Self Help Graphics Workshop building located at Ceasar Chavez and Gage streets in East Los Angeles. Oropeza donated his time and artistic talent to complete this multi-year project. The second phase of this project was the creation of a Virgin of Guadalupe shrine, for the community.
