This sophisticated gilt bronze mantel clock is an elegant piece of mid-19th century design, beautifully cast and gilded and set with two delicate Sèvres style porcelain panels. The clock case's finest feature is the charmingly naturalistic scene at its top, showing a full-length sculpture of a female figure sitting with a basket and two doves. They are displayed on a naturalistic, oval-shaped plinth, which is decorated all around its exterior with painstakingly intricate foliate motifs.
Either side of the plinth there are two Sevres style porcelain panels, each of which shows a winged putto. One putto is shown writing, while the other is shown holding a dove. Each is set inside a turquoise blue border decorated with delicate gilt scrolls. In the centre of the plinth sits the clock dial, which is enamelled and contains Roman numerals. This is a lovely antique French ormolu, gilt bronze, mantel clock with Bleu Celeste Sevres porcelain panels, by the renowned maker, Raingo Freres, Paris, circa 1850 in date.
The clock features a beautifully cast pair of ormolu cherubs surmounted with game, to include fish, boar and pheasant, above a circular enamel dial with Arabic and Roman numerals. The dial is flanked by porcelain panels with gilt highlights, depicting playful cherubs.
The clock has an 8 day striking movement and is complete with pendulum, bell and key.
This incredible clock is a must have for any collector of ornamental and decorative pieces.
Condition:
The clock is in really excellent working condition the movement having been cleaned and serviced by our horologist, and the ormolu case having been polished, please see photos for confirmation.

In every way a work of exquisite craftsmanship, this magnificent work of art is a complex and wonderful timepiece. The case and figures are cast by the important and highly regarded bronzier Henri Picard, active in Paris 1839 through around 1884. His firm supplied extensive furnishings to Emperor Napoleon III and an important pair of candelabra are held in the collection of the Musée du Louvre. His work is always characterized by the finest chasing and doré. The present example depicts putto resting among flowers in the field holding a garland of florals between them while flanking an oversized urn draped with acanthus overflowing with flowers and leaves over an angular Neoclassical case. Eight individual hand painted porcelain panels are set in the case, each an entirely unique work of art featuring flowers and pairs of cherubs surrounded by gilt highlights over a bright blue background.
