Scott Mitchell Houses
By Rizzoli International Publications, Calvin Klein
Located in New York, NY
A stunning volume that gathers the California designer's most impressive works to date, from coastal sanctuaries to modern country farms. A master of his genre, Scott Mitchell is celebrated for his warm approach to connecting the built and natural environment. Sought after for their minimalist, material-driven aesthetic, Mitchell's houses are studies in space, materiality, and light. Emphasizing an elegant spatial order, his projects respond to the natural appeal of their locations, be they bucolic retreats on Long Island or resplendent beach houses overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The first volume on his work, Scott Mitchell Houses is a sublime exploration of the architectural designer's impressive portfolio of projects. Dynamic compositions of light and shadow with a masterful use of concrete, Mitchell's monolithic forms draw on the surrounding environment via floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto vistas so cinematic that Tom Ford utilized one of Mitchell's homes in his neo-noir film Nocturnal Animals. Through previously unpublished photographs, readers are given an exclusive view into eight pivotal projects that span the globe from the Hamptons to Melbourne, featuring images by Ross Bleckner, Scott Frances, Trevor Mein, and Steve Shaw...

Barkley L. Hendricks: Portraits at The Frick
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
American artist Barkley L. Hendricks (1945–2017) revolutionized contemporary portraiture with his vivid depictions of Black subjects beginning in the late 1960s. This book contextualizes Hendricks’s portraits at different stages of the country’s history and places him in the pantheon of innovative twentieth-century artists. Hendricks developed his signature style at a time of significant social and cultural change in the United States, especially with regard to Black artists, and amid a perceived bifurcation between abstraction and representation. He produced portraits from the late 1960s through the early 1980s. Following a hiatus during which he made landscapes, basketball paintings, works on paper, and photographs, he resumed his portraiture practice from 2002 until his death in 2017. Hendricks’s portrait paintings, often derived from photographs of friends and family, hired models, or figures he encountered on the street, were inspired by the artist’s research, international travels, and visits to museums like The Frick Collection, where he studied centuries-old European paintings...

Brooklyn Arcadia: Art, History, and Nature at Majestic Green-Wood
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
The New York City treasure, newly photographed, is revealed as garden in the city, repository for memory, and a place for repose, inspiration, and delight. Green-Wood is a living cemetery that brings people closer to the world by memorializing the dead even as it embraces the art, history, and natural beauty of New York. Founded in 1838 and now a National Historic Landmark, Green-Wood was one of the first rural cemeteries in America. By the early 1860s, it had earned an international reputation for its beauty, attracting 500,000 visitors a year, second only to Niagara Falls as the nation’s greatest tourist attraction. Crowds flocked here to enjoy family outings in the finest of first-generation American landscapes. Green-Wood’s popularity helped inspire the creation of public parks, including New York City’s Central and Prospect parks. Green-Wood is 478 spectacular acres of hills, valleys, glacial ponds, and paths, throughout which exists one of the largest outdoor collections of nineteenth- and twentieth-century statuary and mausoleums. Four seasons of beauty offer a peaceful oasis to visitors, as well as its 570,000 permanent residents, including Leonard Bernstein, Boss Tweed, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Louis Comfort Tiffany. At once a celebration and an invitation, the book ranges from a consideration of the natural landscape in which it is set to a close look at its architecture, statuary, symbols, typography, birds and fauna, trees, and typography. About The Author Andrew Garn is a fine art and editorial photographer whose recent books for Rizzoli include New York Deco...

Finding Home The Houses of Pursley Dixon
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
Author Ken Pursley and Jacqueline Terrebonne, Foreword by Suzanne Kasler In their first book, acclaimed architects Ken Pursley and Craig Dixon explore how to create gracious homes with welcoming entryways, soulful interiors, inviting porches, and ebullient gardens. Founded on the simple principle “Build beautiful things,” the architectural team of Pursley Dixon, like populist architects Bobby McAlpine and Jeff Dungan, is known for blending elements of tradition with a modern lifestyle. In Finding Home, they share 15 stunning houses in three distinct styles: rustic mountain escapes, dreamy retreats by the water, and elegant houses in town. Each house has its own thoughtful visual narrative, but all are connected on an innate and authentic level by their sense of proportion, attention to detail, and a marvelous affinity with nature, displayed in their soothing neutral palettes, oversize windows that bring the outdoors in, and natural materials such as rough-hewn stone and unfinished wood. Little touches of humanity await discovery, such as a sleeping nook perched right out into the highest branches of a tree. These eccentricities and secrets add to the distinctly Southern sense of warmth and refuge these homes provide, homes whose open interiors and majestic porches easily accommodate family and gatherings. Featuring their own interior design work as well as that of acclaimed decorators such as Suzanne Kasler, Phoebe Howard, and Circa Interiors...

Rattan: A World of Elegance and Charm
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
Rattan furnishings evoke the glamour and laid back elegance of exotic beach houses as well as the informal beauty of plant filled garden rooms and sun dappled verandas. Long fascinated with rattan's versatility, designer Lulu Lytle examines the enduring appeal of this sustainable tropical palm in RATTAN: A WORLD OF ELEGANCE AND CHARM. The first book in decades to examine the history and craftsmanship of rattan furniture, this insightful tome showcases rattan's appeal through archival images of beautiful interiors including Madeleine Castaing's winter garden in Paris, Michael Taylor's own Californian beach house, the Titanic's Café Parisian and the Billy Baldwin designed Mr. Kennedy's beauty salon in New York City. Rattan's many personalities are explored through its inclusion in settings as diverse as Impressionist paintings, flamboyant nightclubs and pared down contemporary drawing rooms. A reflection of its inherent beauty and longevity, antique rattan furniture from the nineteenth century is highly collectible, as are rattan pieces created by giants of modern design such as Josef Hoffmann for Thonet, Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn, Jean-Michel Frank for Ecart, Renzo Mongiardino for Bonacina, Arne Jacobsen for Sika, Paul Frankl and Donald Deskey. Rattan pieces have become iconic and highly prized, including Hiroomi Tahara's Wrap Sofa, Franca Helg's Primavera Chair, and the many iterations of the beloved Peacock Chair. RATTAN also highlights some of the many tastemakers who have embraced rattan--from Marella Agnelli, Babe Paley, and Cecil Beaton to leading interior designers including Jeffrey Bilhuber, Veere Grenney, Axel Vervoordt, and Jacques Grange. About The Author Lulu Lytle, long smitten with the romance and versatility of rattan, rescued the last remaining workshop in Britain in 2010 in order to establish Soane Britain...

At Home with Dogs and Their Designers Sharing a Stylish Life
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
Written by Susanna Salk, Foreword by Robert Couturier, Photographed by Stacey Bewkes America's leading interior designers show readers how to live in the most stylish way with their adorable dogs, offering an array of inspirational tips for keeping both your home and dogs attractive and chic The most elegant, stylish, and well-appointed house is nothing but a shell without its inhabitants, including the canine kind. Just ask the 22 A-List interior designers who grace the pages of At Home with Dogs and Their Designers who love nothing more than letting their best pals sleep in bed with them, cuddle on the couch, and essentially rule the roost. No room is off limits, no piece of furniture banned, clothing is optional, but their accessories are just as chic as their surroundings. Accidents may happen on vintage rugs, antiques are sometimes mistaken for chew toys, and more than one pair of ruined designer shoes have befallen them, but none would consider living without their loyal and loving best friends among the things they love. With individual chapters exploring each of the dogs' amazing lives as they romp through the stunning interiors and gardens they call home with their humans, this book as much an inspirational design book, even if you don’t live with pets, as it is a resource, packed with clever tips from the interior designers themselves on ways to live with dogs. Teddy, Alex Papachristidis’ Yorkie, uses a miniature vintage chair to hop from the floor to the bed instead of doggie steps while Brooke Gianetti created a custom doggie gate made from antique wooden doors to keep Bebe, Sera, Frasier, and Sophie from getting into trouble while she is away from home. With 6 pups on the loose, Carolyne Roehm always orders extra yardage of fabric to make protective covers and quilts. Mary McDonald happily climbs on the oversized dog bed her 5 Pugs—Jack, Lulu, Boris, Eva, and Violet—share for daily “pug hugs” while Charlotte Moss’ Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Daisy and Buddy, lounge in a cabana out in the Hamptons on summer weekends. All of the featured pooches are interviewed, giving us insight into the luxury of their daily lives from their favorite places to sleep to their guilty pleasures. Complete with a resource guide for your decorative needs as well as pet needs (including adoption and rescue organizations), At Home with Dogs and Their Designers opens the door—from coast to coast, townhouse to beach house—allowing us to peek in and embrace this love letter from these designers to their pets, who are most assuredly family members. By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
Known for her witty and whimsical interiors with a bohemian flair, Brooklyn-based designer Fawn Galli shows us how to create magical rooms ourselves without breaking the bank. Guided by her philosophy ""A room should awaken the senses,"" Galli's goal is to cast a spell with her interior designs. Galli's interiors are celebrated for expressing the deepest desires of her clients through storytelling layers of textiles, colors, and furnishings. Showcasing twelve very different interiors--from a Brooklyn townhouse to a Tribeca loft to a Greenwich Village apartment to an Upper West Side penthouse--Galli illustrates how she has achieved the finished look for each and breaks down her design principles into instructive teachings on scale, structure, balance, and color that readers can apply to their own interiors. Through the lens of her favorite rooms, Galli shares her own inspirations and tried-and-true tips, revealing how she distills her influences into five elements that she uses, in every project: Nature (bring the outside in); Clashing (a no-rules attitude); Surrealism (subverting the rules of scale and composition); Bohemian (worldly, chic, and eccentric); and Sparkle (the influence of disco sprinkled like fairy dust). Full of inspiration, ideas, and real-world design tips, Magical Rooms empowers us to dream and to create our own chic and personally meaningful interiors. About The Author Fawn Galli got her start in interior design working for Robert A.M. Stern where, among her many projects, she designed Mr. Stern's own loft and apartment. Rooms with a History Interiors and Their Inspirations
By Christian Louboutin, Ashley Hicks, Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
Inspirational and visually on trend, Ashley Hicks's latest work is a pattern book for the 21st century. Offering insights and revelations, Hicks's own exquisitely quirky and colorful historicist interiors are discussed with designs from the recent and faraway past. Ashley Hicks has created a mix of manifesto, souvenir album, and confession in this collection of noteworthy rooms--featuring his own one-of-a-kind interiors along with rooms that have inspired him. The manifesto aspect is rather limited, since Hicks is not a great believer in aesthetic rules or the value of so-called good taste, but as a souvenir album, it charts Hicks's personal creative journey of the last few years, illustrated with photographs of some favorite historical interiors and objects that represent a mixture of source material and inspiration. The book's twelve chapters reveal Hicks's creative process, how he approaches different themes in his own interiors, furniture designs, and works of art, and how these themes can be applied to the works of others. Such subjects as flowers, color, layers, form, pattern, and memory are presented in the context of actual projects. Historical and recent interiors are discussed for their decorative value--notable rooms and architecture include the Pantheon in Rome; Emperor Maximilian's tomb in Innsbruck; the Royal Pavilion, Brighton; and the Petit Trianon at Versailles. Hicks has created a book for devotees of decorating and the history of interior design. About the author Ashley Hicks is a British author, architect, interior and furniture designer, and photographer. He is the son of Lady Pamela Hicks and the legendary decorator David Hicks. His personal Instagram profile has amassed over 200,000 followers. Christian Louboutin is a celebrated French shoe designer.

Jean-Louis Deniot, Interiors
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
Author Diane Dorrans Saeks, photographs by Xavier Bejot. The first book on the work of a designer whose refined classical interiors are widely desired and emulated as the epitome of French style. Honored as one of the top designers by all the international design magazines and universally admired by design editors, Jean-Louis Deniot is in demand. His updated classical approach now graces interiors in Paris, the French countryside, Moscow, India, New York, Chicago, L.A., and beyond—and his legacy is already being compared to that of design greats such as Jacques Grange and Alberto Pinto. Deniot is an architect first, ensuring that the interior architecture of his rooms is harmonious before giving a neoclassical approach to the decor. He brings education, logic, and design history to his work, with one eye looking at the most refined style of French eighteenth century and one eye on the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. His mix is highly individual and includes contemporary art and custom-made furniture, yet his rooms always look comfortable and are never overly formal or trendy. This book demonstrates a new, sophisticated classical style that is changing the scene for international design and offering inspiration and ideas to decorators, homeowners, and antiques enthusiasts. About the author Diane Dorrans Saeks is a noted design lecturer. She is the founder of the design/travel blog The Style Saloniste, and the author of Ann Getty...

Author Umberto Pasti and Ngoc Minh Ngo, Foreword by Martina Mondadori Sartogo A lovingly photographed tour of internationally renowned writer Umberto Pasti's famous hillside garden in Morocco. Planted between two small houses is the Garden of Consolation: a series of rooms and terraces with lush vegetation, some rendering homage to the paintings of Henri Rousseau, others inspired by invented characters. Surrounding the Garden of Consolation are the Wild Garden and a hillside devoted to the wild flowering bulbs of northern Morocco, where indigenous species of narcissus, iris, crocus, scilla, gladiolus, and others bloom. With its stunning vistas and verdant fields, Rohuna is a garden of incomparable beauty with the mission to preserve the botanical richness of the region. Island Whimsy Designing a Paradise by the Sea
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
Author Celerie Kemble A house by the sea should be a house of dreams. Where windows and doors are thrown open to the ocean, and gusts of cool, salty air turn us all into kids again--buoyant and joyful. Spending childhood days on the beach and in the magical, romantic chaos of her family's rambling house internationally renowned interior designer Celerie Kemble has a deep-rooted connection to the sun and surf. However, in the summer of 2004, Kemble laid eyes on a wild swath of jungle in the Dominican Republic next to minty-blue water and an endless stretch of golden sand, she fell madly in love. Over many years, she designed a home away from home there, an island retreat--a clubhouse and a grouping of family homes and guesthouses--suffused with light and air, full of indoor and outdoor rooms for relaxation. In her latest book, Island Whimsy, Kemble recounts the deeply personal and creative journey of designing Playa Grande and bringing this labor of love to life. The chapters of this book are organized around the different ways Kemble sought to braid her family's story into the larger landscape of Playa Grande and to provide inspiration, joy, and respite to all who come. "Fantasy" looks at the way she used whimsical, dreamlike elements--from the latticework cabanas by the pool to the lamb statues...
