Robert Freeman has been showing nationally for over 40 years, and has been included in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the National Center of Afro-American Artists, Boston Public Library, Brown University and DeCordova Museum. His paintings have been featured in exhibitions at Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Williams College Museum of Art, Williamstown, MA.
Known for his vivid and powerful figurative paintings, Robert Freeman has traditionally focused on the interactions between people in his work. Skillful, brave use of color and gesture are the trademark of Freeman's work and make his figures nearly abstract.

"My birth place is Yakhroma town, in the vicinity of Moscow. It is situated on high hills, from where broad Bruegelian vistas are open. The uneven terrain with significant differences of high and low; a canal between the Moskva river and the Volga; small rivers, woods and villages; a nearby ancient town of Dmitrov, which is equal to Moscow in age; ships cruising the canal and trains outdistancing them – all this I saw from my window since my early years. It was a view that embraced all the diversity of the world. This is why I can say that the impressions of my childhood and youth – beautiful nature and remarkable people – are the most important ones.
In the museum of Moscow's St. Andronic Monastery I copied the best examples of the old Russian painting of the 15th-17th centuries.
My own style evolved from the ancient icon...

Oil on canvas by Edith Desternes (1901-2000), France, 1920s. The Church Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Auvers-sur-Oise. This church has been painted in 1890 by Vincent van Gogh. At first glance, one is struck by the strength of this work. Then, on examination, one is captivated by this depth of soul and technique. Edith Desternes uses a thick paint here where black, and dark colors, play a privileged role. Thus the contrast between the warm and cold tones, surrounded by black, create an intense luminosity reminiscent of stained glass windows from the Middle Ages. Georges Rouault is present in this powerful work. With frame : 87x66 cm - 34.25x26 inches ; without frame : 81x60 cm - 31.9x23.6 inches ; 25P Format. Signed "E. Desternes" lower right (see photo). On the back, we notice the pictorial material dropped by the artist, it is not a restoration. The condition is excellent !
