Japanese Bronze Carp

About the Item

Original signed wooden box. Signature reads: Ryohei Saku. Outside of box reads: Ota Ryohei saku. Notes about the artist: Ota Ryohei (often spelled Oota Ryohei), 1913-1997, was born in Fukushia and studied sculpture under Miki Sosaku and kitamura Seibo. He exhibited consistently and was awarded several time at the prestigious Nitten, eventually selected to serve as a judge there. There is now a museum dedicated to his work called the Mori no Chabako Museum (Tea Box in the Forest Museum). The Fukagawa Museum dedicates one room to his sculpture and there are many public works in various cities around the world.
