19th Century Gothic Double-Sided Solid Pine Exterior Door

About the Item

19th century Gothic double-sided solid pine exterior door was crafted from solid pine which has been fully stripped and ready for staining or painting to complement your project! The subtle arched design features three vertical panes at the top simultaneously providing a source of ambient light and privacy. The six linenfold panels below that are exquisitely hand-carved, and appear the same on the interior side as well. Assembled with double-pegged mortise & tenon joinery, it was designed to last for at least two homes, maybe three! Circa 1880s Measures 90 H x 39 W x 1.5 D.

    This pair of carved antique doors was recently found in Normandy, France. They were made during the 1800s in pine and feature rich yet restrained carvings in the French Gothic style. The panels include arcading and trefoils inside quarter round moldings. Along the bottom panels are carved linen folds, typical of Gothic furnishings. The backs of the doors remain simple, only showing the backs of the panels and old iron hardware. Light traces of the original finish (possibly gesso) can be seen in the carvings.
