Antique Hand Carved Renaissance Revival Fireplace Bellow with Angel Sculptures
About the Item
Rare, antique and working fireplace bellow with angelic musicians.
This one of a kind antique bellow is all hand-crafted in the first half of the 19th century and made of natural materials only. We think it is Dutch and that it was made in one of our three Northern provinces. The front is beautifully decorated with two charming, deeply carved angels. The one on the left appears to be singing (with a sheet of music paper in hand) and the winged angel on the right is holding a horn. In classical symbolism the angel with the horn represents judgment day and the entry into heaven. The back of this bellow too is decorated with a stunning Renaissance Style pattern and this fine antique is easy to mount on your wall via the leather lace on top. The antique and engraved brass 'nozzle' too is in perfect condition and so are all the brass rivets. This almost 200 year old antique is actually still in good working order, even with the small tear that you can see in image 12. The rarity, the beauty and the great style of the antique carvings combined with the marvelous patinas of the wood, the leather and the brass really makes this unique antique a wonderful piece of history to use and to look at. Its wonderful condition is like an ode to the artisan whom hand-created this work of art all those generations ago.
