About the Item

A striking abstract steel sculpture by the talented young British artist Jack Davis. Jack works using 3mm plate steel, which he cuts and welds. This piece, titled 'Dog I' is the first in a series of sculptures. A body of work which demonstrates a refined and sophisticated language, revealing Jack's sculptural capabilities. Although titled 'Dog I' the artist is not representing a dog, this is simply an indication to the scale and presence of the pieces in this series. The anthropomorphic form and angled lines suggest a mechanical or otherworldly creature. Indicative of Jack's work this piece harmoniously balances the raw and subtle. Jack’s practice explores the relationship he has to the landscape in the 21st century, creating a fresh approach to a traditional subject. ‘Dog I’ is selected from the artist’s body of work ‘In & Between’ (2012 – 13) which specifically explores technology in the landscape. Jack’s sculptures and paintings on metal are gaining significant international attention. Jack’s sculpture ‘The Big Blue’ was one of only four sculptures selected form over 500,000 entrants in the recent See.Me global art competition.
