19th Century Hand Painted, Engraved and Gilt Brass Carriage Clock

About the Item

A fine carriage clock The engraved gilt case rises from an ogee plinth, and is dressed with elliptical polychrome enameled plaques to the fascia and the sides, depicting children in a Romantic setting, with a carrying handle atop, set across the beveled glass inspection window, the dial with Roman numerals and blued steel hands, the eight day twin train movement with a bi-metal compensator balance on a lever escapement set on a silvered platform, striking the hours on two gongs. French, circa 1880.
