Elegant Swedish Floor Clock Adorn in Nature-Inspired Chinoiserie, Early 19th C

About the Item

An elegant Swedish grandfather clock adorn with a distinctive chinoiserie nature inspired design from the early 19th century. This antique floor clock from Sweden is loaded with decorative chinoiserie throughout, in a playful nature motif of cranes, birds, flowers, and a foliage. This shapely clock is topped with a carved, raised crest headpiece, petite carved flowers and leafy swags adorn the neck, the belly with its fantastic convex window, is defined at the waist with belted molding with a swagged carving beneath. It is presented upon a flat pedestal base with low-profile bun feet. This clock is black, with chinoiserie in gold and bronze colors. This clock would be a wonderful decorative object. Though it retains it's original face and movement, it is not currently in working condition. However, the clock can be quartzed to keep perfect time, for an additional cost (please contact our showroom to discuss). Should you decide to quartz, a battery would then be added behind the face. The original hands are too heavy to carry the quartz movement, so they would be changed to black hands, similar in style. The clock would then chime (the chime can be turned off even though the sound is quite delightful. A pendulum selected to work with the quartz movement would be added behind the glass opening. This early 19th century Swedish clock, with it's elegant chinoiserie and curvy shape, will be a "room-maker" statement piece!
